I think Glover would be a very nice game to be TASed. So I made couple testruns of it. Why Glover would be so good game to be TASed? Because there are so many ways to clear an obstacle: Bouncing with the ball, throwing the ball over, slaping the ball and many more.. In the first testrun I completed the course the way it is supposed to. and in the second testrun I completed the course by the fastest way possible so you can see how much can be cut when you learn how to control it. I also made the runs to see how Mupen64-rerecording works with some other roms than Mario 64. So that's why there is different plugins in the runs. To see how they work. The runs were made with Glover (U) [!].m64 rom. For those who don't know what kind of game Glover is, you just need to try it yourself. At first it may seem somewhat stupid but when you get the hang of it, it's actually very good game (although quite hard). What you can't see in my testruns is that you can transform the ball into bowling ball, a magneting ball and crystal ball. Each has some sort special ability. I also scanned the Glover Moves from the quide book that came with the cartridge so that you can see what Glover is capable of doing.
Which run should I encode next? :)

And obviously the rerecording mupen64 emulator, which can be found on this site.
What's a man like me supposed to do with all this extra savoir-faire?

For those that don't know, I am intending to make a TAS of this game. This will be my first N64 TAS. Here is my amazing WIP: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3981/Glover%20%28USA%29.m64 My intend with this version is to just complete the game, learn the basic game physics, and just get a run to compare against.

I did some testing. fastest form of movement is having turbo B and bouncing the ball basketball style. 2nd fastest is holding the ball in your hand normally and rolling it on the ground, and slightly slower than that is jumping on top and running on it backwards. Is this going to collect all question mark cards or just enough to proceed to next level? Edit: did more testing, reversed the fastest forms of movement

I'd go for just beating the level. Some of the carpets are really out of the way. Also, I was just considering doing this about 2 days ago, but I guess you can do it. I'll find some game that doesn't have an analog stick.

I intend this to be an "any%" run. This game has great potential for shortcuts, but getting all those items would negate most of them.

Fair enough. That's a good reason on its own.

Can't wait to see more progress on this. And of course, can't wait to see to see Glover's cool little dance too :)

The most unfortunate thing about the run is that you can skip over the level end animation :'( Perhaps on the last level we can see his amazing dance <3 Happy 1000th Post. (And what a useful post it was :/)

every 1000th post is meaningful, no matter the content. welcome to the 1000+ club. apparently you can also cartwheel. I'll fiddle around with and see if it's a good move.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/4007/Glover%20%28USA%29.m64 Now at the boss fight of world 1 Vidar pointed out that the practice level can be skipped so I redid that. I take a number of shortcuts throught 1-1,1-2, and 1-3. In 1-3 I throw the ball, backtrack and then jump over. If all this could be done in one motion, it would save a ton of time. It seems like it may be possible but I don't know enough about the game to pull it off. You will see my movements are not optimized and are mostly spastic, and I don't optimize any jumps. These will taken care of in v2. If you know of any tricks in these levels, by all means let me know :)

What exactly are you doing to skip the level ending dance?

Duh. I'm so stupid, I never thought of that. I just assumed it was an unskippable movie.

I've never played it so all I can give is my support. It looks like a pretty cute and decent game. Will it get more interesting as it goes on?

I recall an interesting glitch in this game that may be exploitable. Use the start menu to warp to some checkpoint, then, before emerging, enter the frog cheat (you should be able to find it on gameFAQs. It's an ingame cheat, not a gameshark one). This will turn you into a frog with all of glover's normal porperties. However, if you jump up on the ball, the ball becomes capable of floating over pits for some reason.

But how long does it last for? The rest of the level?

The one thing I've noticed is that Glover seems to move quicker when he's standing on the ball, also a lot of time seems to be wasted by bouncing the ball up slopes, in that last level would it be of benifit to change the ball into a bowling ball so it sinks to the bottom and then change the bowling ball to something else in order to bring it back to the surface. I'd that current runner does some testing of generic movements to see which produces the best result, obviously you'd want to test it out in a large flat part of the overworld map to give difinitive results.

standing on top of the ball and walking backwards is not as fast as turbo bouncing it, and is much harder to control.

ooh, good idea :D As far as the other stuff, those are general optimizations that I don't intend to attempt in this version. Just tring to get a route and some basic ideas.
