Firemen is a game about... firemen. Pete and Danny are at Metrotech Chemical Company to put out a fire which started in the kitchen. The chemicals makes the fire at Metrotech Chemical Company have a mind of its own. Sweet.
ROM-version
There is no U-version of this game, so the choice was between J or E. Since this is a video game, we decided to follow the path for video games that Nintendo and Sega set back in the days, and decided to ignore Europe. Most dialouge are only tips and hints about how to complete the level, and are skippable as well.
The text would have been skipped just as fast in E, so language is not a great issue this time, other than during the ending sequence.
The run and the game
We do not save any victims that we do not have to save, in order to save time. Lesson to be learned: Do not go into a burning house and expect to be saved by Pete and Danny.
Pete is the character controlled by the player, armed with a hose, with which he can spray forward and downwards. Firing the hose makes Pete move slower. Danny is his sidekick who has had one cup of coffee too many before this mission. Danny is indestructable, puts out fires using his axe, or by stomping on it. Danny also is the one who opens doors (Not using the axe though). Pete on the other hand every now and then runs through the fire without taking damage.
Pete can also put out ground fires with his feet, on special occassions.
There are water grenades to be found around the levels, and will put out all fires near the explosion. They also cause a significant amount of damage to bosses, which is why we sometimes takes a detour to pick up an extra grenade for a boss.
Shooting certain windows causes severe explosions, which Pete has to duck to not get hurt by. These explosions thankfully put out all fires which come within radius.
There are several kinds of fires in this game. The small, very orange ones, burning on the ground is impossible to pass, and must be removed with the hose.
This kind of fire do not hurt Pete. The fire can also be somewhat manipulated, depending on how certain sections of a room is entered.
The yellowish flames about the size of Pete causes damage to him and stuns him for a handful of frames, but grants invincibility for a few seconds.
The huge fire piles knocks Pete off his feet for several seconds if he hits them. Therefore, we try to take damage from a lesser fire when one of these are around to be able to run through them. If there's no fire around, we have to put it out, which takes a while.
Other than that, there are the heatwaves, crazy robots, helicopters and other suspicious stuff attacking Pete and Danny.
We tried to keep the boss-battles as close to the door as possible to save time when the game auto-leaves the levels.
Towards the end of the run (Frames 41000 and beyond), we didn't remove the text during gameplay (Cardboard's fault) due to laziness. Trying to remove those text boxes with the TAS-editor created a frame of lag, which messed everything up after that point, therefore, it stays. It does not slow the game down.
Cardboard's comments
I would like to thank Vidar for making this run with me, and moozooh for fixing the author info, which I messed up.
Also I HAVE PAID MY DUES
Vidar's comments
It was great fun to work with Cardboard and I was thoroughly impressed with the speed he can TAS and the result of this run, although I am disappointed that I didn't do as much as I wanted to.
I ALSO HAVE PAID MY DUES

I was slightly dissapointed at the complete lack of firemen like behaviour (oh hey, there's a person who needs help! Ah screw it, he can burn, I have better things to do!), not to mention the masochistic nature of Pete (really, no fireman would *like* to continously get burnt and run through more fire at the same time). Overall, while not as 'noble', I suppose, as the wip BoltR did a long while back, it was still somewhat entertaining. This one gets a yes from me, but not by that much.

A good run of one of those weird games by Human I've never heard of. Kinda repetitive, so 15 minutes is a bit long, but it's got some novelty to it. Yes vote.

LOL, firefighters who don't rescue people. About how long would a run be if it saved everyone?

This game is impossible to speeding through without tools, so it looks amazing with fast paced fire fighting. I tried to TAS for this game once, but it desyncs on me a lot. Your movie are a lot faster than mine anyway so easy Yes. hmm what's next? Ignition Factor? ;)

Sorry but I could not help myself fastforward most of the time when I watched the run. I liked the first minute of the run but then I thought it got pretty repetitive. Voted no.

I actually much agree with Angerfist. It wasn't too bad to start, and looked interesting, but after the first boss, it went downhill very quickly for me. It honestly felt very repetitive with almost no break to it and I ended up skimming with the Fast Forward button a lot :( Sorry, but this is a No Vote from me. :( Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

What is the Firerate based on? How much fire you put out, who you save... Depending, a 100% or all saved run could be more interesting. I'd also like to see more back/side stepping when not necessary, like you did during the water crossing near the beginning.

Atma: I would also assume that real blue robot boys with Mega Blasters not really *like* to run through enemies ;) At least we stayed away from death abuse >_> Chamale: I would assume at least 2 more minutes. Probably even more, and due to already reptetive nature, I dunno. ventuz: We first tried to run the game using 1.51, but it desynced almost instantly. Also, hex-editing a run of this game causes severe desyncs. Also Ignition Factor was a choice but... due to no bosses and... other factors, it seemed like an even worse game choice. TGM: I would assume that you would have to put out ALL fires, except for what bosses leave after them, but I am not sure. Seeing how this is quite a bad game choice, making a 100%-run would only make it much longer, and probably even more reptetive. Also yeah, more of the strafe-walking could have been used... but, I blame my keyboard layout for not allowing me to walk diagonally while holding R or L (Which we all know is bullshit, laziness is the truth...)

Voting No. Chalk this up to a bad game choice.

I'm not sure what to think of this movie. I enjoyed the vast amount of damage taken. It became a limited resource that had to be managed througout the levels. Also, I assume that each hit was planned so that it saved more than it cost to refill health at the end of the level. Your sidekick bringing an axe instead of a hose and putting fires out with it is hysterical. Best element of the game :) It is repetitve but not terribly so. I did watch it all the way through in one sitting. Though I was ready for it to be over around frame 30,000 or so. I find it a rather borderline game. If it were rejected, I wouldn't lose sleep over it. If it were accepted I wouldn't be upset either. I dunno.
It's hard to look this good. My TAS projects

Cancelled due to, like, 9 votes in a whole month, and rather negative feedback on the game.

Are you going to make an improved version? Also, are the tall robots supposed to be R2D2s or Daleks?

Most likely not, since people seem to find the game repetive and boring. Also I think they are some kind of futuristic garden robots... so R2-D2 sounds very likely.
