I'd been looking for a decent game to TAS, when I "re-stumbled" upon a test run of this game in the Genesis wish list thread (Very big thanks to Molotov for that .gmv, it was very helpful). After playing around with it for a little while, I realized that it actually had a pretty complicated set of moves and quirks, and produced a nice and quick movie.

The Story...

... is pretty much non-existent. To quote Wikipedia: "Wolverine is shown holding a photograph of someone from his past, and expresses his desire for revenge. He then recounts the procedure that he underwent which bonded Adamantium to his bones. It's at this point where the same laboratory level begins without much explanation as to why, or how Wolverine got there."

The Controls...

... SUCK. Seriously, try playing this game. It's horrible. Reaction to input is sluggish, attacks are difficult to control, and turning around takes much longer than it should.

The Tricks...

... are surprisingly numerous. Most obvious is the repeated slide maneuver that allows me to keep top speed when on flat ground and unobstructed. Wolverine can slide with an initial speed of 4, but if he pops up into a kneeling pose, 10 frames later he will be able to slide again, which increases his speed to 7 (8 for the first couple frames). Another trick is to press the jump button 4 frames before landing from a fall. This prevents Wolverine from landing in a crouched position, and having all movement input being halted for ~20 frames. I'm able to get right back into a sliding rhythm using this technique. The uppercut and the downward stab are the most powerful attacks, but some enemies (Sabretooth, in particular) have very quick invulnerability periods, so I'm forced to use the "Look ma, I'm THIS BIG" attack. There are some other small things, but they're mostly not important, but if they come up in discussion I'll be happy to answer then.

The Glitches...

... don't really make an appearance. At least not helpful ones. Some collision boxes are abused, but the most noticeable glitch is graphical in nature, and occurs halfway through the mansion level where the background graphics palette gets waaaay goofed up.

The Improvements...

... probably amount to 10-20 seconds, mostly due to small frame savers here and there. I redid the first half of the movie a couple times, so I believe that it is pretty tight, however I'm sure there are some small time-savers still around.

The Ending...

... is bad.

Does it make me a nerd that I recognized 95% of the characters in this game? I even knew who the final boss is, why he has green hair, why he has a battlesuit (this involves a separate timeline involving the X-man Bishop, not Wolverine); heck, I even know what his mutant power is. I find it very amusing that Wolverine's fastest form of movement looks so much like Super Smash bros. Melee's Wavedashing. It's also a relief that the CanuckleHead has many various moves and different speeds, which keeps things more interesting than many other movies where the main character has 1 set speed. However, the lack of speedy options to get past the grunts slowed down the pace a bit, making a potentially sonic-lite run hit some molasses. But I guess you can't vote no on the guy who's the best there is at what he does, but I'm throwing in a 25% weak vote flavor due to the game's limitations.

Thankfully, there weren't too many places where I actually had to come to a dead stop, once in the snow level near the last section of caves (where the ceiling is too low to jump over him, initially), and once in the sewer level where the bastard is just blocking my way down to the next set of pipes. Jumping over the others does slow things down a bit, too, but not nearly as bad as having to stop.

An Adamantium Rage TAS is finally here! Thank you, mmbossman. Also, I'd recommend against playing the SNES version. I know the Genesis version sucks, but the SNES game is so much worse. Then again, crazy stunts might actually make the game watchable. :P Anyway, easy yes vote from me.

I'd youtube it, but I am VERY worried about what information could be inside that 10 seconds spare space, does the movie cut off the ending while there is still gameplay left? Like Gimmick!? Give me an AVI encode, not an MKV and I'll see what I can do.

Not quite sure what 10 second space you're talking about, but there is about 10 seconds of 'non-gameplay' input after the final boss dies (to get to the credits). Sorry I can't provide an encode for you.

The ten second space I talk about is the limit of the Youtube video length, 10:59. If there is any action past 10:47 and it lasts longer than 10 seconds (I take in the time of the TASVideos logo too), than I cannot youtubise it without removing material.

Flygon, I'm making an encode limited below 11 minutes, don't worry. I had to cut out ~20 seconds, which contained two pages of credits, but they were names only. The ending scene with "well done Wolverine" is in. I'll edit my post later. Fast paced game, interesting assortment of movement possibilities. Furthermore, the fastest possible movement on level ground is totally ridiculous looking, so I cannot help but vote yes.
