Post subject: Mighty Bomb Jack

I've decided to do a speed run of this game. However, there are two ways to do this. There is the normal way of beating the game , or there is the level warp. In the royal palace rooms, it is possible to skip to the next one. Should I do this, or beat it normaly?

I think you should do both, one "as fast as possible" and other "warpless".

I love Mighty Bomb Jack, especially the Palace-warp stages. On real NES I often try and see how far I can get without dying. Once you get hit, you go all the way back to the last level you actually played, so it's a real challenge. My record is level 10 or 11. I will download the movie when I get home from work. Your effort is appreciated by this gamer!

Could you tell me what would be easy game to do a TAS? I new in this but I'm really interested. Some advice would also be nice.

how about Zanac? the one i have published basically sucks and was done with an obsolete emulator. id say it could be improved by at least a minute. the advantage for a 1st time TASer is that most of time its auto-scrolling so you just have to have fun and make it entertaining. speed only comes into play at the bosses

And Guardian Legend is half Zanac! but there you have to figure out a route and what stuff to get and so no too hard

Yes, a game you are familiar with is best. Since you posted this in the NES forum I assume you're interested in doing a NES game, so that probably narrows it down a bit. Also, there is a list of suggested games/ideas (although mostly they are suggested because they are not yet done, not because they would be easy to do). I think overhead-view games are easiest for TAS beginners to control, although platformer games can be pretty easy too. But, the real difficulty usually comes from how hard it is to figure out what is fastest to do to beat the game, so the bigger and more complicated the game rules are the harder it will probably be.

That's a good idea. I love point-and-click adventures, especially if funny things happen to the characters, such as Gobliiins and Gobliins 2. It would be fun to see one of those games played really fast. They'd do all kinds of crazy things, and suffer all kinds of hilarious injuries, non-stop. Heck, I'd even watch a TAS of Peasant's Quest. Too bad we're limited to console games, but there must be some good adventure games to work with. These would be ideal for a newcomer because you only need to know the solution (search the net for walkthroughs) and then play it really quickly. One note about using walkthroughs is that you can often skip things or break the normal sequence of events in games like this, and not every walkthrough may know about all of them.

I don't think that Monkey Island-video would be fun to watch! All the funny parts must be skipped because they are not necessary for completing the game!! But for this topic: I have played lot of Megaman and SMB:s but I don't think I can ever beat those videos alone. If I could Co-operate with someone I think I could get something done! I'm not so good at playing but I think I can fix some little parts etc.! So if anyone is so kind that would let me co-operate with him please let me know.

Agreed. It would probably be less interesting than even watching somebody play it normally. (Unless it's a lot more buggy than I think it is...)

I'm sure you would learn a lot about TAS's by trying to beat those videos, but something else might be better to try to start out with...

Making a TAS isn't very much like actual playing, so being able to catch and fix little mistakes is perhaps more important than being good at playing. As for cooperation, I'd suggest you first try making a little of something on your own and then post your work, and people here could look at it and help you with the part you did. That is usually how cooperation on these starts, anyway (I think).

I didn't mean actual playing (I'm pretty good at that) but TAS playing. But I try to make a little movie of some kind.

I think most of the old Famtasia movies can be improved upon a little bit, if only because of a tiny bit of added precision (frame advance). Forget about Contra, though.

Try Planet of the Apes for GBA. The character movement is Prince of Persia style, so there's no need for super-precise maneuvering. It's a quite short game too.

Go to http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php and upload the .fcm or .smv file you made, and it'll give you a link so post that link here. And you should probably say what game it is and for what system, at least. Also, make sure to read the FAQ if you didn't already. Almost all of it is helpful. (Just mentioning it because a lot of people don't seem to read it...)

Uh, I think you should make really sure you read everything in the FAQ ( http://tasvideos.org/FAQ.html ), and then try again. mistakes I noticed with what you posted: Waiting around a lot, moving somewhat slowly, not correcting mistakes (you only used 1 re-record), not doing anything really interesting (maybe the game's fault? - you did indeed choose an easy game, anyway...)
