TAS Super Monkey Ball Jr "Expert + Warp" by mmarks

  • Emulator used: VBA24-Alpha-svn-r325
  • Aims for fastest in-game time
  • Use expert difficulty
  • Use warps
  • Genere: Platform

About the Game

Super Monkey Ball Jr. is part of the Super Monkey Ball series (most certainly not the best), in which a monkey inside a bubble spins around a course, aiming to either collect the bananas or get the fastest time.
In this same game has 2 modes: the main game and mini-games. Main game is just to play normally, and has 3 different difficulties: Beginner (10 Stages), Advanced (20 Stages), and Expert (30 Stages). I chose the expert mode, right there, there are 30 levels, I think there are 3 warps where I go, are the levels: 2 (to 6), 15 (to 20) and 26 (to 29). Also contains 3 levels extra, but that's not is nothing

About the Movie

This TAS I did it this because had seen in the ListOfIdeas to TASvideos, but before, wanted to know if there's a TASes, but what I found was this: TAS Comicalflop's, TAS Mechakoopa_DTTVB's & TAS Mechakoopa_DTTVB's v2 or 3. That TAS, were made on beginner, but the TAS of Comicalflop no, because I use a maximum level (Master) but people does not like
I've used the expert mode, because it's than there, I've also used warps, remember, at the level 2 (to 6), 15 (to 20) and 25 (to 29)

My run wasn't particularly interesting.... and neither is this. My feeling is that the GBA port of Super Monkey Ball isn't as interesting as the GC/Wii games. Once Dolphin is up and running, runs of those will be beyond interesting. This game? Not so much. Some of the reasons: -Graphics. The grahics, even for GBA, are very poor. -Playing speed: Not so high, and frame-rate isn't too excitable either. -Exploits- there aren't as many cool tricks and shortcuts and stuff as the GC versions. -Speed exploits. All bumps in GC are designed to increase your speed and do impossible maneuvers. in this game, all they do is slow you down.

I don't find the run very exciting to watch because of the momotome pace and waiting periods during levels.

Agreed. While this game still looks hard, it doesn't look hard AND frenzied like the GC/Wii games do. Voting meh.

I would rather see a GC/Wii run. Expert on GC has 50+10 EX stages. However the GBA version is kinda dull. Sure it's perfect in terms of play but still dull.

I know this game is kind of slow compared to other monkey ball games. I know a GC run would be better... But for what it was I still liked watching it. So yep!

I thought it was interesting, having never played a Monkey Ball before. A little boring, but for being under 8 minutes I'm not too put-off. There was just a lot of waiting around, though. The only ones the were particularly interesting to watch (besides the two where you clearly skip ahead by falling off the track) were the ones were you never/rarely have to slow down. Stage 30 was fun to watch precisely because it was the only time I felt you were really in any danger of falling off--particularly those "chompy bits" that collide into you. That was a good way to make a forced wait interesting--risk falling off. Otherwise, I believe my favorite was Stage 22 due to its speed and straightforwardness, and if ALL of the stages were more akin to that one, then this would easily be a yes. I have to give it a meh, though. It's just too slow-paced and unvaried. It also seemed visually improvable, but it's hard to say.

Although this game is very uninteresting, I think this game shouldn't be in List Of Ideas. By the way, I vote MEH. mmarks: I'm sorry to hurt your feelings.

I like it. There may be less opportunities for spatial abuse, but it is still a good run. But I wish that you'd have entered a better name for the highscore table.

We are really close to TASing GC, the GC version is way superior in everything compared to the GBA version. I would say this is a really poor version choice. But it was somewhat fun to watch anyway, voting Meh.

It's true to the super monkey ball games, but kind of a 'lite' version. I'm voting yes because I was amused by the superhuman swerves.

I will vote Yes! due to the similarity with marble madness gameplay and always almost falling from the path giving a good impression!

Some bits such as the ending to stage 14 didn't quite seem optimal. But overall it was pretty fun to watch, and there were a few good high speed/danger moments in there, so a yes vote from me.

A GBA is not supposed to be able to pull off games like this, since it has no 3D rendering capability. I'm a sucker for software-rendered 3D, even flat shaded polygons. Yes vote, because I didn't see anything bad with the run.

The gameplay seemed solid. I see no reason not to publish this just because we're getting closer to being able to TAS a completely different version of the game. Yes vote; nice work!

That's a nice TAS! Voting Yes! And I'd really like to TAS or to see a TAS of a GC or Wii Super Monkey Ball game! Oh, and there's also that DS game.
