Well, I thought about that, but Mario gets sucked into the ground without landing for a single frame (in other words, he can't stop ducking).
Okay then, it's done.

Ah, thanks. EDIT: Derp, turns out the backup solution I used when I couldn't get the corner clip ended up being faster than the corner clip itself.

kaizoman666: ah another thing, if you're going to discuss about the hack, I think it's better to make its own thread, because one can find info about it more easily when he wahts. It's kinda painful to look for desired info on a particular hack from this thread if it treats so many hacks. Well, sdw should have its own thread though it's not been used for years. :(

hey guys, i have a question. when you are on the ground and holding a bomb and you throw it it can go fairly far, though sometimes it will only go about a third of that distance (not even that much)... what causes that and how could i make the bomb go the furthest distance when im on the ground?

Make a bomb's y-subpos higher, and it'll get slightly greater y-speed and bounce high.

well i compared it to someone elses run and i made them have the exact same y subpixel (and regular y pixel) yet i couldnt throw it far unless i waited a bunch of frames on the ground...

Well, I guess I might as well post this here. I don't really want to make a thread for the hack, considering it's a not very well known hack.

I wasn't going to write about this because it seems like such a pointless glitch, but after some thought it could be very useful in most runs, especially the VIP series. For lack of a better name, the "Yoshi Despawn" item swap refers to a sprite taking the same #id as Yoshi as he dies. This will cause the item to "move" to Mario's position (or in some circumstances, 'nullify' the sprite, e.g. Goal Point or Springboard). Yoshi will then appear again under Mario if he goes through a pipe, door or exits the level (via goal, start+select etc). Potential uses:
    • Depending on the type of item you swap him with, Yoshi will either be Blue, Yellow or Silver. Thus, a Yoshi of a desired colour can be achieved based on the pallete of the sprite being swapped (it seems). • Maintain flight without requiring Yoshi. If you can swap him before flight (or during ascension) then flight speed can be achieved without dismounting Yoshi. • Taking Yoshi through doors, and also pipes that would otherwise be impossible (e.g. screen scrolling pipe). • Taking items that came out of a block through a pipe whereby you need to keep Yoshi. (Second division sprites, or sprites with an #id higher than Yoshi, cannot be held on him). • Bringing an item towards Mario. For example, flying question blocks can be moved so they will contain a different item.
It doesn't seem to work on 'standard' sprites, e.g. Koopas or Goombas, but it will with seemingly any Tileset-Specific sprite. Here is a sample (SMV). I haven't done enough research to know if this will be useful in SMW 96-exit, SDW, etc.

Bit stuck right now in SMPP4. Here is a picture of where I am right now, from Lunar Magic. I enter with a Yoshi and no powerup, and the ? block contains another Yoshi. I'm looking for a way to avoid having to wait for the P-switch to end to get the key out of the boxed area in the upper-left. I've managed to get in by using the P-switch to force Yoshi up into the ceiling to the right of the box, which let me push myself into the box and to the key. The only problem is getting out. I've also tried use the force down Yoshi recieves if he doesn't enter the wall enough while in the ceiling to grab the key, but Yoshi doesn't get quite far enough into the wall to pull in the key, even if I jump off him near the bottom so that he stays in the wall a bit longer. So what I'm asking is, is there any possible way to get the key out of the box without waiting for the P-switch to end? Note that I need to keep Yoshi.

i have two ideas, not sure if either are possible. one, boost at the coin block wall, could you grab the coin before it turns into a block? probably not so you could try... using the key to maybe boost yourself through the roof next to the coin wall and stay in the ceiling and walk over the wall. either of those work?

That would accomplish nothing...

Um. 1) Definitly not, considering coins turn into blocks and vise versa on the same frame (meaning no time to collect the coins). 2) No, as boosting through the ceiling with one item only pushes you halfway up (you have to rapidly jump off Yoshi to move around). Continuing into the wall would just kill me. In order to boost all the way up, I'd need two objects (and I see no way of bringing both Mario and the P-switch into there). EDIT: Needs ninja protection.

well two things, first off, isnt there a way to bring yoshi with you to the area with the key? if so you have two options, eat the p switch the frame you land on it, and there you go, two items! but if that doesnt work, i would still try, you may be able to stick yoshi in enough that he and you get pushed on top of the brown blocks, thus falling out the other side... is that possible? other than that i see no way but waiting :/

Well, of course its possible to bring Yoshi into that area, thats what I've been doing. You still only get pushed up halfway with an item, and still need two items to push through all the way. Also, not sure if its possible to eat the P-switch considering how little time you have between spitting it out and landing on it (and once you land on it, its pretty much impossible to pick it back up). I'll take a look, I guess.

hey kaizoman666 i have no idea what your written descriptions are trying to explain that you have already done. below yellow line indicates you bringing the pswitch up and boosting partway into the ceiling in the corner. red line indicates that you have got "stuck" and are being ejected down and to the left all the way down (like falling through the pipe in sdw pw4b). green line is yoshi's tongue grabbing the key on the way down.

Yeah, that's what I meant with this description. Its kind of hard to describe strategies like this. ^^;
