Submission Text Full Submission Page
It is played by Japanese edition, but you can enjoy this movie with the (U) rom.
I had made pacifist Ninja Gaiden 2 before. I think Scumtron is a talent player in this game, and his movis is too wonderful, so that I nearly can't find a little mistake.
Stage-1: 4 frame improvment. I have reserached this game some years. I think slip is not the same as walk. Slip can create more randomness.
Stage-2: 10 frame improvment near cliff.
Stage-3: 2 frame improvment by slipping.
Stage 4-7: No improvement. Because Scumtron is too strong.

NesVideoAgent: Hi! I am a robot. I took a few screenshots of this movie and placed them here. Oh! I also replaced the ROM name.
  • You indicated Ninja Gaiden 2(J).nes
  • I updated it to Ninja Ryukenden II - Ankoku no Jashin Ken (J).nes

adelikat: While this movie movie is faster, it is being rejected. Style matters, and in that category it fails to the published movie.
1) The left+right "gliding" is used too much. It seems it saves time in one spot. It should be used there only.
2) More variety after the boss fights would be nice
3) Use the U version (even though it syncs on either).
I hope you take the time to make these changes as this could be a 10/10 movie for me.

Nice improvement to a movie I had thought was perfect. Yes vote. Also, this movie syncs fine with the (U) version.

Although there's only 0.25 seconds' improvement,it cost me lots of time and work. The all-way sliding is especially brilliant.

Excellent! 16 frames is impressive for this game and it's also very entertaining so it's good to see that there's still competition here. Easy Yes from me.

Hmm, apparently, I was slightly disappointed. While you did improve the published movie, you did it by a very small amount. However, the exact reason of my disappointment was your stylistic choices. Sliding got really old halfway through the movie (and it didn't really help anything, as evident from your improvement list), and post-boss actions were all the same, while Scumtron's were all different and very amusing. I can't help but give it a meh vote, sorry. :\

I enjoyed it in the same way that I enjoyed the previous movie, and this is an improvement so I voted yes. Sliding was annoying, but i can understand that it saves time. I thought the cliff improvement was cool, if it was what I thought it was.

It only saves time in one part in the entire run (though I'm not sure if it was due to sliding at all), stages 4-7 are not improved even though they were slid through.

If sliding doesn't save time anywhere else, or at all, I think it should be avoided in the next run, but I still think this run is publish-worthy.

I did enjoy your run, and I am glad to see that you found improvements for speed, but I wish the improvements were more substantial.

I think I knew this guy. He is 云水道远 instead of 西坡. He might have got confused when he was posting in English.
<klmz> it reminds me of that people used to keep quoting adelikat's IRC statements in the old good days <adelikat> no doubt <adelikat> klmz, they still do

I felt the same way. The character never once does his running animation. I was a little upset by this. Once thing that made it nice for me was noticing that the orange ninjas (whatever those are called) are running while the main ninja is gliding. As far as the post-boss actions, I remember being less impressed by those as well. This was enough for me personally to vote meh or no initially, I can certainly understand people being opposed to this run. Especially considering the time difference is so marginal. I think xipo should redo this run. Should this be published, I will rate it a 9 entertainment and 10 tecnical. Whereas the previous movie was a 10 entertainment, 9 technical. But changing those stylistic choices would make for a 10/10. What I propose is to do traditional running for the most of the run. Use it to save time wherever that may be the case and maybe a few small spots just for fun. Use scumtron for inspiration on the post boss antics. It is very important that you don't glide in the first level. The running animation is cool and sets a nice tempo for the movie. Then later, as the running has been established, you can through in some gliding to give it some variety.

I agree with moozooh, adelikat, and TGprimus, the sliding looks really bad. I have also told you this in your previous submissions of this game. There is nothing interesting in removing animation from the game. What if you could remove all sprites but one, would you do that too? The twitching after the bosses didn't bother me as much as the sliding, but it also looks bad. No variation, only slashing as much as possible. I would rather keep the old movie than replacing it with this.

The current published movie has some of the most entertaining stylistics seen in a (relatively) simple game. It has been decided that 16 frames of improvement were not worth throwing this entertainment out of the window. I believe nowadays NG2 can be beaten even faster, though; ask Scumtron if unsure.

I actually haven't touched NG2 since my last submission for it, but Xipo recently mentioned that he's found an additional 18 frames of improvement since this submission.

And what do you think of unrejecting this run now?
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

It's faster than the published run, so that would make it a no-brainer for the vault, yeah? Though as Xipo says in the linked post, he has found additional speed improvements that aren't represented here, which to my understanding would disqualify it from Vault-hood.

Well, the vault allows for quality movies with known improvements. I would hate to set a precedent of a rejection over 18 frames. However, we all know the correct solution here. Some one needs to improve the published movie, and make it entertaining. Then we have 1 awesome movie, instead of 2 with problems.
