I am hoping one day there wil be a run. Will Samus take damage in this run, if it's situations that dodging is slower? And the final% of completion?

Almost certainly; the Metroid series frequently benefits from taking damage.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpJ-HtxZVwc&feature=em-uploademail-new Ladies and gentlemen, for many many years, avid fans have looooooonged for a sub hour run. This has been my dream. This has most certainly been the dream of many many metroid prime speedrunners, fans and followers. Now, as I said to Tompa, I can rest in peace :) I wanted this run soooo much that I offered thousand dollars to anyone who managed to get sub hour on this shit. That was years ago lol :) This is the epiphany of... everything! This run was done in a single FUCKING segment! Can you believe it? You better believe it son! :) If you listened to the audio commentary on his live stream, you could hear Miles was crying like a sweet little baby and shivering :) This is the moment we've all been waiting for. I want you to watch this. I want you to witness history. Miles, congratulations my man! You deserve it all and more. I've gathered that Miles wants to achieve a :57 run (single segment) before sending it to SDA :( His goal for an any% segmented run is (as far as I'm concerned) :53.

I wonder how much faster a TAS of this would be? Assuming Dolphin load times ever get close to the real console, of course.

Although its a vague method of measurement. When I was comparing my Duke 64 TAS to WRs where identical strats were used. They were on average 10% faster, which would make me believe that 45-46 might be realistically obtainable.

Well, the current Segmented run gets to Parasite Queen around 2:10 (game time) and the TAS gets there at about 1:53, so 10% faster is pretty accurate guess, I guess :P you have to keep in mind though, that the frigate is pretty much the most optimal part of any non-TAS speedrun.

How much is that due to loading differences? I guess it'd make the most sense to compare times for the Frigate escape. Not only is that very heavily competed/optimised in realtime, but I don't think it has any TAS-only tricks, so the difference there would just come down to loading times and optimization. And I'd expect optimization would have a much smaller effect than the loading times in that section (although, of course, it would matter).

Most of it is loading differences. You really can't compare TASes to a realtime run. TASes have a ridiculously unfair advantage that has nothing to do with optimization. Also

Well obviously some of the save is from loading, but I don't like how that's worded. There where only like 4-6 seconds saved due to loading in so far, so no, most of it is not due to loading <_< the 18000+ rerecords weren't spent on nothing. This TAS is very heavily optimized regardless of what you or Miles may think.

Hmm. I guess perhaps a better way to check would be to subtract the time it takes for the doors to open from when the load lines are crossed from the run time during the Frigate escape. That's going to give both runs a shorter than correct time, but it should also be one that has no loading difference. You'd need to know where the load lines were to do that, though.

...It saves around 9-10 seconds, probably. Hard to judge properly when no loads would completely change the strat in some rooms.

Well that's the problem right there: Dolphin HAS loading, in fact some rooms take longer to load on Dolphin than on a Gamecube/Wii <_<

Cargo Freight Lift to Deck Gamma takes almost a second longer to load on Dolphin, there are a few other rooms like that too but afaik its the only room the TAS has made it to so far.

This makes the differences much more obvious - the TAS is clearly ahead. Having said that, I have to give credit to the SDA folks - that 's some pretty impressive playing right there. The fact that you had to make this to prove it, well, proves the point. :) Thanks for creating this, A.C. ******

Uh...I don't have twitter, and I can't be bothered to make one for just 1 post, so uh... You do know that the run doesn't have to be a New Game run, right? As long as the New Game+ run has a verification movie, you can do it. For example, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night obsoleted a run that didn't utilize "New Game+" to skip cutscenes. I know CoolKirby mentioned it before here, but according to the twitter date, you seem to be unaware you can do this. :P

I'd say we're taking a break, but I don't think we'll be coming back to work on so, yeah progress has been stopped, mainly due to loading times / TASvideo rules. if we ever start it up again we'll be starting on a card that already beat the game and hopefully someone will have somewhat fixed the horrible loading times by then.
