This is an improvement to the previous movie, after optimizations that didn't work the first time suddenly started working.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: Hourglass r81
  • Game version: VVVVVV 2.0
  • Aims for fastest credits
  • Uses death to save time

Comments

This movie is an improvement of 88 frames (1.47 seconds) over the previous movie. The improvements had been considered, but for some reason didn't properly work. After FieryBlizzard (FieryVolcano on YouTube) pointed out that he (sort of) managed them in the RTA version of the run, I tried going a bit slower and this magically worked.
The improvements come from not touching the first teleporter and not suiciding during the terminal activation.
Timed in RTA fashion ("Start Game" pressed to "Hello" appearing), this run is 0:39.33 (2075 frames) long.
For an explanation of the glitches used, please see the previous submission.

Thanks

I'd like to thank Masterjun for his help in creating the previous run, which this run is based on. I'd also like to thank FieryBlizzard for pointing me towards these optimizations.

feos: Accepting this improvement.

This doesn't get to show you rising through the ceiling, but the ending is still definitely WTF worthy. Good job improving an already broken run. Beat you by a little bit, got4n :-)
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. I feel so sorry for this game :( But you still did a great job bringing the time down even more!
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

Meh vote. You didn't fall upside down at the end. :/
Part of the improvement causes me to lose control over Viridian at the end. Where in the previous run Masterjun could use moving around for entertainment and prevention of falling down, I could not. I had to carefully manipulate the teleport sequence (which uses the game state) to prevent falling down, which costs me about 8 frames and leaves no room for entertainment. On an interesting note, I did eventually manage to trigger the end sequence while being catapulted out the left of the screen, but this was somewhere between 10-20 frames slower.

Speed/entertainment tradeoff. That version sounds better.

With runs that are this short, it's a real challenge to push them absolutely as far as they will go time-wise. I'm quite ok with leaving out entertainment tradeoffs. If you want to show off the version that flies off of the left, I'd be interested in seeing it, but I don't think it makes the right choice for publication.

Yeah, losing 25% of the improvement to make it more entertaining is a weird choice.

Improvements to published movies almost always get a yes vote from me. This one is no exception.

Way to improve an already short run! And I agree with mklip2001 and Patashu; it took effort to save those 88 frames and entertainment tradeoffs would take away from that. Also, according to the credits, Markus Persson (a.k.a. Notch) was a patron of this game. Interesting.

Apparently, Notch made the Pyramid level, one of the extra levels that comes with more recent versions of VVVVVV. There's even a Creeper face carved into a wall at one point.

Is thre any particular reason this didn't have an HD encode? Did the replacement come out too fast?

I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

That's great! Could you add it to the description? It's still using the old 480p render.

For movies that have been published you should look for the encode in the actual publication ("Watch on (www.youtube.com)"), since the submission text is made by the author so it usually only contains his own encode.
Warning: Might glitch to credits I will finish this ACE soon as possible (or will I?)
