The idea of actually making one of these movies was very appealing. I had no clue what input files, frame advance, or anything else TAS-related was. After lurking for a while, I downloaded an emulator (Gens 11b, at the time) and got started.

I had been a fan of speed runs of various games already starting in ~2003. I had seen the original Morimoto TAS from Kazaa in 2003, though I didn't know it was tool-assisted. I just thought whoever was playing was ridiculously good, for years. I had seen unassisted speed runs that were roughly as good, like Mega Man X done with only the blaster, etc. Eventually, I saw a few Sonic 2 TASes which I also thought were unassisted since I didn't know about TASing. They were nonsensically fast, and I did some more research and learned more about the wider TASing community, especially at TASvideos, then. This was in 2004, though I was only an unregistered forum lurker at that time. I have been deep into the Worms Armageddon community since 1999. In the mean time, Deadcode from the Worms Armageddon community independently wrote tools for a private build of Worms Armageddon. He had been given the game's source code by the development company, Team17, in order to maintain it. I hadn't put together immediately that Deadcode's single step, frame advance, and other tools were essentially the same system (though more advanced in a few ways) used by console TASers. He hadn't heard of console TASing when he wrote those tools. It excited me that Deadcode had independently programmed TASing tools, so I had to share his triumph with the world, and the pride I had for my "home" community of Worms Armageddon, so I registered and ended up writing this thread: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5736.

I learnt about the existence of challenge runs and such by browsing GameFAQs in a web cafe before we even had internet at my home. It was a looong time ago. The idea was interesting, and later it was Forbidden Siren and its Time Attack-mode that inspired me to try to do speedrunning myself... one thing led to another, and I started glitching as well, and... saw TASes on the web at some point, and... Well, fast forward to 2008 and I came to TASVideos to flaunt my cool Mortal Kombat 4 (GBC) glitches. Kind of sad, really, to have such a horrible game behind the pivotal moment where I stopped being a TASVideos lurker and actually posted here. The stench of MK4 shall forever debase the memory of me joining TASVideos.

I was doing a google search for Final Fantasy 6 information, and one of the links was the movie page or submission notes(I can't remember) for the run that is about to be obsoleted. I watched the TAS and followed the site from then on.

I was on an action RPG kick five and a half years ago and stumbled across a nice little movement trick in Terranigma, which made me stop lurking and start actually TASing and posting. God, my early posts were awful. ...Okay, my current posts are awful too.

I had been gaming since the early 90s and had a penchant for breaking or messing with the games I played while trying to complete them. I also occasionally enjoyed what speedrun/superplay videos I could find online, but didn't think I had the time or interest to build the skills necessary to enter that arena. Not related to this was also a relatively recent desire to find some fun way to combine my skills as a Software Engineer and video gaming hobby. Enter AGDQ. I got hooked on that marathon last year and eventually saw the TAS block for '14. The SMW ACE blew me away and had me dying to know more, so I found my way here and started digging. The idea of making a TAS really clicked with me, so I thought I'd get my feet wet and see where it goes from there.
