Level Comments/Improvements

Green Hill 1

  • Last time, I lost a frame compared to Aglar & marzojr's run for reasons I couldn't descry. Now, I checked that act and it was due to a bad y-subpixel value that slowed me down earlier than it should've. (the landing after the jump into the ceiling at 0:19) → 1 frame

Marble 2+3

  • I revisited the possibility of succeeding in the level wrap with the slower zipping speed (16 pixels per frame) and it finally worked. As it turns out the leeway is incredibly small, 5 subpixels for the x value and 24 for the y value (a pixel consists of 256 subpixels) → 188 frames

Star Light 3

  • Same as in Green Hill 1, a bad y-subpixel value prior to the jump into the ceiling (0:10) made me lose a frame compared to Aglar & marzojr's run. This new y-subpixel value even allowed me to save a frame with a marginally lower jump into zipping position (0:12) → 2 frames

feos: Judging...
feos: I'm going to introduce another unit of a TAS improvement. While "1 masterjun faster" means "an order of magnitude faster" than the previous effort, "1 aglar faster" should mean "the 1st iteration of improving an Aglar's run". Considering that even the first iteration almost never happens, "1 algar faster" is damn insane, because we all know how superhuman Aglar's runs are. And this one is... "TWO aglars faster" now!

This is an awesome way to celebrate Sonic's birthday. Thank you. I guess you agree with me because you have done it twice already. I'm looking forward to your next blast. ;)

I'd love to verify this, but it might be either hardware impossible, or at least not possible on either of my Model 2s. I'll write more in the console verification thread.

Kind of didn't expect this one. I was sure you would improve Sonic 2 instead. However, I have to vote yes, as this is incredible. Deeply impressed by your position management, fitting into a 5-subpixel-wide window is something crazy and, I beleive, involved explicit calculation. You are the only one person from whom I know, who can really beat Aglar by optimization level, so consider trying your hand on Sonic 2, man.

Whatever characters are in the filename after the numbers result in Gens not being able to load the GMV on Windows 7. I had to remove them. Anyway, great run, voting Yes.

The trick with horizontal underflow at lower speed can be abused with any character, so, it makes sense to use this trick in further improvements of Tails@S1, Knuckles@S1, the upcoming run of Amy@S1 and other possible projects. By the way, Tee-N-Tee, you seem to really enjoy minimalistic input. Not always, but during most of the run you don't input unnecessary data (like pressing forward button while rolling, for example).

Oh, there is an encode... a user hasn't commented here about the video. How do I know? IRC chat. Because of whoever forgot here: Link to video

This was obviously a yes from me, game torture = own Personally, i didn't know that sonic 1 was that much of a rape subject. And a pro comes around and destroys the game, all but legitimately....what's to hate? I never got those random zips that much even back when i screwed with debug, so this definitely accounts for something, good run man, Can give a two thumbs up?

DMTM claimed on IRC that 12 more frames can be saved from this run.
TeeNTee jumped a bit higher than necessary to break the capsule
I have no idea what's on the pic and how it improves something, please check it out guys.

Love Sonic, and those TAS runs show the true power of the so called Blast processing of the Genesis/Mega Drive.

right now, I'm 99% certain that it's not possible to hit the capsule 12 frames sooner, since I got the exact values on the exact frame as in the screenshot he provided and Sonic didn't hit the capsule. I'll try to get in contact with him, though.

so, DMTM hasn't responded to my PM. I guess, we can close this issue.
I will still wait for one person's input on that, otherwise, it's almost published.

Console verified: Link to video Some minor modifications were needed though to sync on the real hardware, mostly inserting empty frames after some boss fights. I guess the animal manipulations don't work out, or something. Also looking down at the end of Labyrinth 2 is playing with fire and actually crashes the game on real hardware, but replacing 2 last frames of pressing down with nothing resolves the issue. I believe that can be a reason for a Verified flag.

Yeah, there is a race condition in the game that causes this. It is harder to trigger on Gens as it does not perfectly emulate the hardware timing, but it is doable.
