I wanted to see if anyone did a speedrun for this game, but no one did. I never did a speedrun before, and gave it a spin. So far I did the first world and it went pretty nice in my own opinion. However, if someone would like to check it out and critize, it'd be nice. http://members.home.nl/grawl/dino.smv Some notes: * Getting hit actually speeds you up. * Most levels have two doors. The upper one is the "good" one, but will sometimes lead to bonus stages. Obviously I avoided this.

I know, its a bit old. But today I found a bit time for this movie. Sorry, but for me it looks not so good. Maybe the reason is the game, and it looks only a bit slow. But many places looks a bit slow for me and not as fast as possible. When damage speed you up, why not get hit more often, that you end near all Stages with only 1 heart, when you do a damage run. Why not jump onto the spike enemies and jump faster over then? Then you must not wait so long till they change into the jump platforms. And only 35 rerecords is to low for this movie I think. Try much harder and maybe with Frame Advance. Use SaveStates and always try to jump as early as possible. Its your first try, and everyone has start someday. I know my first tries were very bad too. But try a bit harder and with much more rerecords. Maybe it would look much better then. It looks like a nice platform game, but the movie looks not puplishable at the moment for me, sorry.

It gave me a 404- change the W in the url to a V. A very interesting game. Looks very exploitable, as you have already demonstrated. I don't think you'll have much use for humping cavemen, though I hope more bugs are found. :)

Unless a game is truly horrible then I'd say go for it. It must've been a bummer to be surpassed in DKC2 (though thanks for starting that topic in the first place so I could do 102% completion) so this'll be a good first TAS for you.

Found a trick/glitch/hover thingy: Link to video You win some extra height to reach hard places easily, and it's definitely useful for a TAS.

I recall watching an old WIP a while back, probably from this very thread that uses that exact trick. Edit: Okay maybe it wasn't this thread but I know I've seen it before somewhere. Edit2: Okay it was this thread: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4616&highlight= Seems someone merged the topics now.
Current thoughts: Hachiemon (J) for GBA.

I'm really happy to see someone pick this TAS back up! I watched the WIP and I noticed one thing you didn't do. Not sure if it would actually end up being faster in the TAS or not... But in the second stage in act 1, the last set of 3 worms right before the doors, if you let the top middle one eat you, it will take you to the next stage as if you entered the red door. In other words, the ice stage. I end up doing that in my runs because it saves me a few seconds. When I first read that Tops was being used, I was a bit disappointed because I thought Rex would be faster in the end, but I was wrong. That rapid fire attack is crazy! I don't know if you know this, but when I was trying to find faster ways to kill bosses with Rex, I accidentally found out you can quick kill Trampo Bird with one jump if you freeze him then jump on his head. This can theoretically be used on the act 5 boss too. Keep it up! I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of the TAS goes. :)

Thanks for point of second stage in act 1, Mecha Richter! It's saved 130 frames approximately! And thanks for Quick Kill Trampo Bird Strategy! It saves approximately 15 frames! I'm going to redo this work to Bizhawk emulator instead of Snes9x, because of Bizhawk is the SNES emulator recommended for TASVideos. Sorry for not more explications of this WIP Run, I'm not speak english!

Here's a second WIP of the game: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/29154365641825068 This is a last WIP recorded in Snes9x, because I Restarted the Project of the game in Bizhawk emulator, due of Rapid Fire Trick and Hover Trick works better in Bizhawk than Snes9x, despite with lag in several parts of the game, principally Boss Stage 1.

Fourth WIP: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/29554019291671104 Improvements: 24 frames is improved in the boss of Stage 1. In Stage 2, 222 71 frames is saved before the boss of Stage 2. In the Boss of Stage 2, i heavily improved defeating both in one cycle thanks for a new strategy that I discovered while i tried to improve time of the Boss. 252 frames is saved in the Boss. 681 526 frames improved of the first two stages totally (Including 183 frames improved of the Stage 1 in the previous WIP).

I investigated the new strategy that I used in the Stage 2 Boss, It's a New Glitch that i just found out recently. To perform this glitch (Only Works With Tops in the Bosses of stage 2, 4 & 6), you must shoot the projectile along with freeze attack both in the boss. I checked my last WIP of the game and I made a mistake of improvement time. It's 526 frames actually improved, not 681 frames. In Stage 2 before the boss, 71 frames is saved totally, not 222 frames. EDIT: With this Glitch, it's possible to save time in Boss Stage 4 and Boss Stage 6, but is much harder to down cycles. EDIT 2: I tested the glitch in Stage 6 Boss: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/29709816530125785 Normally with Tops, you need 7 cycles to defeat this Boss. But with this glitch, it's possible to defeat in 3 cycles. Unfortunately, it's impossible to defeat in one cycle. EDIT 3: I tested the Glitch in Stage 4 Boss: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/29710337800204236 Normally, you need 5 cycles to defeat this boss (because of long waiting when you hit this boss normally), but with this glitch, it's possible to defeat in one cycle (without waiting)!

This 2 Videos is a test of the glitch. I will still improve this times on the real speedrun which is not finished at the time.

Fifth WIP: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/29890438951945004 Stage 3 Finished! Improvements: - 1 lag frame is reduced in the Boss Stage 2. - More Lag Reduction (Principally the boring fourth part of Stage 3. Those Prehistoric Giant Wheel is the reason for one of the laggiest acts of the game). - The last part before of the Boss Stage 3 is improved for 322 frames (the most improved of the stage). - A New Glitch (Freeze & Jump Glitch) is used on the Boss Stage 3 to save time. Thanks to Mecha Ritcher for discovery! 900 frames (15.8 seconds) ahead of my last WIP of Snes9x emulator.

This project is not dead: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/31855577421506945 Until 4-3 Stage. Youtube Encode (New): Link to video I redo this run to Stage 1 Boss to reimprove this run, starting of this Boss until the end of Stage 3-5. Sadly, I lost 8 frames in 3-4 Stage due of more lag and due of fact that I take damage twice to perform a shortcut in Stage 3-3. 284 frames faster than my previous WIP. Main improvements: - More lag reduction in Stage 1 Boss, Stage 2, Stage 3, and First-Half of Stage 4. - This use of Rapid Fire Trick is changed: Instead of press R in one frame, press Y in next frame, press R in next frame, and so on, I changed to: Press R, wait 1 frame, press R again, press Y [to shoot projectile instead of ripple (or paralyze gun attack)], and so on. Thanks for this, I reduced lag in Boss 1, Boss 2 and Block Stones of Forest path of Stage 3. - New route before of end of 3-3 Stage and a New Shortcut in middle of Stage 4-3. - Reimproved Wall-Jump Glitch in 4-3 Stage: I shoot some projectiles during of use of Wall Jump to gain some pixels of vertical position, avoiding some lag frames. 1350 frames (23.4 seconds faster) ahead of my Snes9x WIP 2 run. Three months ago, I found a Way to perform Wall Jump Glitch in Stage 6-5: Link to video This saves seconds of time, skipping a elevator. Sorry for the medium quality. I don't know much about good encodes better than 240p.

Wow that wall jump skip is so good! Pretty difficult to time in real time. Seems there isn't much room for doing the jump. Good find! And I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the TAS!

This TAS is finally and trully completed: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/32153549586791541 1882 frames (32.5 seconds) faster than Snes9x's WIP 2 of this game. Some notes: - Reduced more lag in 4-4 autoscroller stage. - Stage 4 Boss is much improved, thanks for a glitch that I used on the Stage 2 Boss fight. Knocked down to 1 cycle. - Stage 5 Boss is defeated with Rapid-Fire Trick. - Some entertainment is made during the 6-3 autoscroller. - I perform a different strategy of Wall Jump Glitch on 6-5 without taking damage (due of take damage on the spikes in the end of 6-2 stage). - In Stage 6 Boss, once again, i did a use of same glitch that I used on the Stage 4 Boss. Sadly, it's impossible to defeat this Boss in One Cycle (because of teleport attack). - This input ends after some conversations before starting ending credits.
