Also, there are some other difference between 2D and 3D mode:
  • In 2D mode
    • For S gun, shoot 5 bullets in each time. And only could shoot again while a set of bullets are disappearing. (Especially, if 3 bullets of the first set disappears, and 2 of the second disappears, you can't shoot next new set of bullets.)
    • For L gun, you'll shoot a long laser if you press Y button at one frame.
  • In 3D mode
    • weapon system is similar to nes contra.
      There is no CD RAM. Or I didn't find out it... Normally, pressing Y button discontinuously is faster than continuously.
    • Movements is same as Jackal. X or Y speed always equals 2. Not only on horizontal or vertical, but also on diagonal.
    • movement is not friendly. I searched the speed and position RAM though, speed is not so intuitive. Instead, calculating the position's change is important. And after comparing the different rotation angle, walking on the 45° angle is the fastest. (The actual speed = 2*√2=2.8284)
    • For S gun, you can shoot S bullet just when any bullet disappears.
    • For L gun, you can only shoot ONE bullet in every 2 frames. If you want to shoot a long laser, you need to press Y button continuously.
Many more lags before stage 1 start... I don't know how to compare between snes9x 1.43 with bizhawk 2.3.2. So hope someone could help me make a comparision list to show that difference.
And I'll show you a comparision without the emulators' difference.

Level-by-level notes

  • Stage 1
S is fastest. So use it instead of C.
I used that tank. It helps me beat boss in 6 frames (fastest). But I don't save any frame... It seems that there is a frame rule for that boss similar to nes contra 1. I tested that the screen starts to move at the same frame after the second boss.
  • Stage 2
Better movement, better weapon choice and better bullets shooted.
  • Stage 3
First of all, at the wall boss, I get many more lags... I don't know if it comes from the emulation difference or my unluck. And in my unused movie(you can get the encode from the playlist above), the fewest lags way is beating one bullet from that boss.
A real console can give me the correct answer - the emulation difference or my unluck. So I go to RTA website to find the video. And the movie's author wrote:
Stage 3
I use the lasers to snipe the snipers as we move right. After we do the midboss I die and Hurblat does the climb alone. The game lags too much to keep player 2 alive. Keeping player 2 in costs 17 seconds worth of lag. I still get to keep crush on one hand even though I lose all my lives which is awesome. Double crush and crush/laser pretty much wrecks everything as far as the rest of the stage goes. In case you're wondering why I have laser, the range helps in stage 4 and it also makes the boss fight in stage 5 much more consistent.
Jump at a better frame before the first tall wall.
So it's emulation difference. And I changed to use their idea: Make one of the the players die. And rebirth after. But still takes a long time... Because of more lags.
Faster boss fight.
  • Stage 4
61 lags more than previous run. So it's faster if you ignore that lags' difference.
  • Stage 5
Better movement, better weapon choice, and better bullets shooted.
  • Stage 6
Better weapon choice, and better bullets shooted.
Specially, the final boss r2, you need at least 3 rounds to beat it. And after a round, boss's HP will decrease 1/2. And each attack form has its own timer. Here a picture shows every timer.(It's not absolute, it's around that value.) So player's damage in the first round is 1/4, in the second round is 1/2. So you need to choose a shorter timer form in first two rounds.
contra 1 mini boss: 1 frame saved.
contra 1 boss: 2 frames lost.
contra 2 boss: 1 frame lost.
contra 2 arcade boss: 4 frames saved.
final boss r1: 43 frames saved.
final boss r2: 154 frames saved.
final boss r3: 74 frames saved.

Have you actually watched the publication fsvgm777 did on your Contra 4 TAS? If you haven't, I recommend you watch it. She took time to make that to make sure that the user can see the main screen of where the player is. I'm personally still working on Publishing Bowser's Inside Story, that was accepted 220 days ago, that's 7 months. It's not just dump and upload, we take our time and we make sure everything is correct and that there isn't a single error. Of course errors will crop up and we do eventually fix it even if it takes 5 years to do something like that. Our worst time is December cause we need to work as a team to get everything that's accepted published before the New Year, and if it doesn't, we miss it and we have to well publish our failures of missing the deadline of the New Year. We do this for free by the way.

BizHawk isn't an emulator that's forced down your throat, you can still use FCEUX and snes9x 1.5x. People still use Gens to make movies and submit them even with the audio accuracy errors. Accuracy is the cost of performance, that's the bottom line.

What you're reading is a translation error. I've said you can choose to say whatever you want, but that's not you. You're not a person who would say or do these "bad things". I've also said you can make it a group project. EZGames69 offered his hand to you for joining him to create a new Contra TAS improvement. I'm not making it unfair, you're making it impossible to actually try to explain to you this situation of your breakdown. It would be nice if there was a native English to Chinese person here that could accurate translate what we're saying, but we have to guess, and we're both guessing wrong. Like I said, I have projects hitting 5 years old now, I know the burden of how long it takes to make a TAS. Also, none of us gets famous only TASVideosChannel, the community's channel. The entire point of trying to get it to one YouTube account is to try and get more people to get into TASing or speedrunning. And I'm not earned, after all you made a comment about it. You're making it impossible to talk to you and I'm trying my bloody darnedest out of all the Staff members to actually talk to you and trying to get you to understand but you're not having any of it and that's what annoying all because you submitted 3 movies and 2 of them were a rushed job TAS because you stated that you weren't going do something and then instantly jumped on doing a project about it. If another user tells me what you're writing and it's something bad about me that's fine. I don't care what you say towards me or behind my back. This means that if you submit to tasvideos.org you give us irrevocable permissions to keep your movie hosted. I'm sad that you want to take down your movies but this is just how things are handled. Now as for the pacifist run from 2012, if things went how you said they did, I believe accepting that run was a mistake on our part. A known record is absolutely a known record. The rules are clear in that regard. I did not reject your run due to EZGames69's WIP. I rejected your run due to the known submission that completed the game faster: #6091: Mr_K's SNES Contra III: The Alien Wars "2 players" in 12:48.97. Should that submission have been canceled to begin with? Probably not, but that wasn't our decision. I do not expect perfection from you. I do not expect perfection from anyone. Perfection is nearly impossible to prove after all. I merely expect collaboration and team work. Please do not make the judges and publishers jobs out to be easy. I'm still a TASer myself and know very much the struggles that come along with it. This attitude of yours deeply saddens me as I used to hugely respect your work. I really hope you don't quit due to all this.

We have judge role requirements, movie rules, and judge guidelines that demand that judges work hard, be thorough, kind, helpful. Sometimes we make mistakes, and it may not be easy to acknowledge them. But if we want to improve the quality of our work, we need to investigate the problems harder, study them deeper, and learn from our mistakes. I can speak for myself because years ago my judgments were sloppy, but I greatly improved since then. Still doesn't mean I am now perfect either.

TASing is a hobby that requires a lot of effort. But it is also a competition. People have been competing at it since the beginning. Here's an example that's taking place right now. The spirit of competition does this, and it's inherent to TASing. Of course any movie can be improved anytime, I don't understand what's insulting in this very fact. If your movie can be improved, the other person's movie can also be improved by you. It's up to you whether you handle it like a competition or like a collaboration, but the main process is still the same when we have several people interested in the same games. We as a site try not to be unfair. Yet as I said we are imperfect, and sometimes complicated situations are really hard to resolve to make everyone equally happy. Some people will feel more upset than others. It's reality. Even though we always try to avoid confrontations, we can't predict everything.

We aren't always equally nice to everyone, but we still try to make tasvideos a better place for regular users as well as TASers. My personal rule here is to never let the TASer feel ignored and disrespected. This involves constantly talking to people who participate in submission discussions: other staff members, TASers, regular users. This year we managed to resolve the confrontation that happened around HappyLee's latest movie. I apologized for how the community mistreated him, and I think I cured his anger towards us. Also I said that the only way to resolve a major contradiction is a compromise. I apologized to you here regarding your other canceled submission. And when you made a new movie with the same goals, I dug deeper and investigated what was misinterpreted about your run. I concluded that the audience got wrong impression and there was no reason to cancel it. It took time, but I fixed the imperfect solution and the confusion.

TASVideos youtube channel has never been monetized and it will never be monetized. We earn absolutely nothing from TASes we publish. All we earn is people's awareness, so they see movies, get inspired, become members of the community and contribute in some way. No money is involved.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.
