Thank you for correcting me, illayaya. I saw the video on mobile and assumed he was showing an improvement comparison since he had been working on a WIP for some time. So his WIP is just sloppy, then?
Thanks Challenger for that resynced file!
New Great Cave Offensive 100% TAS by WaddleDX. Truly amazing work on every way!
Great work! It seems well done.
Apparently it is not possible to find a fast 1-up on the way to skip that game-over screen.
Just as a side note, I found out by testing that you can "throw away" hammer but then climb up a ladder to keep it.

Is there a new movie being worked on right now? The current TAS is 20 years old and iirc the RTA WR is over 10 minutes faster than this with a completely different route.

The current run is a 2p any% run. There just isn't much interest in that category. And when you do some digging into current tas records of this game, it gets rather intimidating at how optimized you have to be just to match current records (let alone beat them). I found this all out while attempting to de-throne this movie myself.
These are mostly all the main records out there. Great Cave Offensive and Milky Way Wishes are 100% videos, but hot damn are they good.
Spring Breeze - I don't think a single frame can be saved here. Mugg is too good. I'm going to plug in my own attempt at this stage. You'll note that I didn't choose Jet, and that's because I couldn't even copy the current route (the clipping is too precise). Heck, I even lose time at the bomb mini-boss. mugg manipulates the earliest possible bomb throw (in addition to the other dozen rng manipulations up to this point). The most I could do was simply show off something different.
Partial Gourmet Race - I couldn't find a normal any% tas of all three tracks, so I just posted a crazy glitched route for the 3rd race as a possible improvement
Dyna Blade - I couldn't find a stand-a-lone tas of dynablade (although I heard of one being worked on in the kss discord)
Revenge of Meta Knight - Looks incredibly optimized
Great Cave Offensive - 100% completion - Looks incredibly optimized
Milky Way Wishes - 100% completion - Looks incredibly optimized
Arena - Not required for any%, but looks incredibly optimized for in-game time (i.e. the timer at the end), and I wanted to show it off. The first boss you fight can be manipulated, but I believe the boss order after that is firmly set in stone.
Summary: trick to end input early on Marx
So, Wheel (the base ability, not Wheelie Rider) has an undocumented attack that I don't see listed anywhere? Not on any guides or wikis I've looked at, anyways. Listing it here so some people will learn of it.
Documented under the move list, you can Brake by holding jump (B) while dashing. This makes you move slower, but at the cost of becoming vulnerable and no longer damaging enemies. However, if you run into a solid wall or screen edge while braking, instead of crashing out, you will just stand still in wheel form. You can let go of the B button at this point, and you will continue to be "parked" until you turn around or transform back to normal with Y (unless you're parked against a breakable block, then letting go of B will start moving forward again, breaking the block).
While doing this "parked wheel attack", Kirby is protected from damage, and will continuously damage any touching enemies. Exception: for some reason, generic explosions (such as those from Bonkers' exploding coconuts) will damage Kirby? Otherwise, for a large number of bosses, you can just immediately park yourself on one of the screen edges, and wait for the boss to defeat itself. Of the 19 Arena challenges, only 8 can't be auto-won this way:
- Computer Virus, Waddle Dee, Combo Cannon (won't move to edge of screen)
- miniboss collection with Bonkers (as Bonkers may damage you)
- Twin Woods (can only park against one tree at a time, so need to switch sides at one point)
- Dynablade (should work in theory, but it seems that below a health threshold, it seems to stop doing its headbutt attack when on the same side of the screen as you?)
- Halberd Reactor (actually, maybe if you wait long enough and the laser picks the right spot, it will rebound from the lower-left corner into the reactor?)
- Heart of Nova (genre change to Shoot-em-up)
So, in a TAS that ends on the Marx fight, as soon as the fight starts, immediately setup the Parked Wheel Attack on either screen edge, and then end input early. None of Marx's attacks can harm you, and he will eventually kill himself from contact. It will take awhile, the majority of damage will come from him doing his arrow-barrage attack on the correct side of the screen. Even factoring in that in Milky-Way Wishes you may need to spend time having Kirby swap to the Wheel copy abilitly, the fact that you're ending input before Marx even first appears on the screen means this is absolutely the fastest way to end the run, by TASVideos standards.
