Trimming the input at the end (ending one frame after Air Man's HP is 0, when Air Man's death explosion particles appear) results in a time of 01:39.137. Okay... Better... But on closer analysis, comparing this run to HappyLee's run, you're still slower on the first three rooms and the final room as well as the Air Man boss. So while it is faster than HappyLee's old run, there are still parts of it that are still slower. Perhaps I oughta point specific issues out so hopefully it'll be a little clearer for you to know what I mean:
  • Starting accelerations: You backwards-jump the moment you land instead of when you reach running speed (X speed $0057 needs to be 25 or higher when you're in the air to reach 40 speed faster). Worse, when you do get 25+ speed, you still don't backwards-jump to get the speed faster. (In the final room before Air Man, the jump you did after the first one was too late, since you were approaching the max speed anyway.) Also, upon closer inspection through FCEUX's TAS Editor, later backwards-jumps (specifically in the final room) show that you are holding the opposite directional key of where you're supposed to be going while you're still trying to backwards-jump (i.e. holding Left when you're supposed to go right).
  • Pit warps: When you go down at the end of a room to warp, you still bounce on enemies and rise up when you're supposed to be falling down.
  • Various slower strats in the first three rooms and the final room (before and during the Air Man boss)... Check again the run by HappyLee that I linked you and see what he did differently that made his run in these parts faster than you.
I'd also suggest you check again my last post for more help and information on how to improve the quality of your runs and better understand the site. There's judge's notes, submission threads, and a Discord server, all there to help you out. Try to familiarize yourself with these; they will really help you out. Also, please be careful with your submissions. This is the sixth one in less than a month, and it's already lacking in quality, though not as much as the others. Try to familiarize yourself with the UserFiles as well; this is where you upload the runs that you're not quite sure are fully optimized. Finally, and please understand that this is a nitpick coming from me but it's highly encouraged in general, try not to leave the submission notes empty. Users want to know how your run was made, so explain however you can. English is encouraged, but if that's not your strong suit, you can type in your native language; you can use translators like DeepL to translate, but let us know that you're using any of them so we don't get the wrong impression. Please don't think of it as me being abrasive or scary; this is just tips and advice I'm giving you. It'll take time to be the best you can be; it could be days, weeks, months, or years, but it'll all be worth it later.
Just a heads-up, but I have a faster TAS up as well (finished and uploaded before writing this post)... I just haven't gotten to making a submission yet. And this unfortunately does make much of what I said about optimizing Vs. Airman Rev. D pointless. ...sorry. :c Maxi, consider it as practice for now I guess, and hopefully the optimization capabilities will come to you for later Super Mario Bros. hacks and other games in the future.
I try to check in whenever possible, at least when I'm feeling it. Look out for yourself and each other; there's quite a bit going on.
