Game end glitch explained in a friendly way (not so friendly if you have no contact with asm). This is the way speedrunners can jump to the credits without crazy inputs. Link to video

Hello friends, i need help: i'm record tool assisted movies of many emulators and i'm currently recording a PSX longplay with this emulator instead of PSXJin (is a good emulator, but have many bugs and incompatible games) and when I use the AVI Output to extract the PSX video from Bizhawk and the video came out totally black, I only see the audio but no video. What is going on I can not extract the video? The movie (bk2) synchs but i cannot see the video, only audio. I hope your answer and you can help me or teach me to extract the PSX video of this emulator! Thank you!
Try to record the video without changing the size. I had the same problem. PS: Recording a movie with Octoshock is not a good idea yet, as the development is not complete and future desyncs are possible.

One should be created, for hacks that won't don't have a movie in the site.

We've discussed this a lot before. Getting the cloud in your inventory isn't ACE, no data gets executed as code.
Getting the cloud isn't ACE. However, there's no way (AFAIK) to proceed without ACE. Running this script on lsnes will display "Open Bus executed!" in the same frame the cloud is gotten, even if Mario dies as quickly as possible. So, the only reason to slip into 3 categories is due to continuity, but they all use ACE.
Language: lua

-- lsnes-rr2 script local Bus_executed = false function on_frame_emulated() local addr = 0x14a13 memory2.BUS:registerexec(addr, function() Bus_executed = true end) end function on_paint() if Bus_executed then gui.text(0, 0, "Open Bus executed!", 0xff0000, 0x80000080) end end gui.repaint()

While the game is not exceptional (IMHO), I find the movie quite entertaining and optimal, showing what TAS is about. Yes vote.

I'd like to thank everyone for the positive feedback! Here are some abandoned strats that we find amazing: Alternative exit in PSW - maybe useful in the 120-exit run, to get the key. Link to video The evolution of DSW. Link to video

This may sound like a dumb question... Would it be possible to quickly complete the first (auto scrolling) star world level, before needing to visit or complete all of the second world?
No. It's possible to skip a big part of this level with Yoshi (wings exit). However, Yoshi is only available in Desert Secret and one would need to complete #1 Misty Castle again. I made the math and it's not faster.

Hello.

Beware that the making of a tool-assisted speedrun usually takes MUCH more time. Sethbling spent a few hours doing it, it's not uncommon to take a few months here.

IMO) The hack must have the following properties: 1) It must be a bit famous: Super Demo World, Kaizo, The 2nd Reality Projects fits here. 2) It must not be aesthetically unpleasant: Kaizo doesn't go well here, but the following rule is important too. 3) The gameplay required to pass the level should be interesting. My main issue with a hack the imitates SMB or SMB3, is that the mechanics of SMW is way easier to control in these levels (without TASing) than in the original games, specially with the cape.

You are right, the any% doesn't necessarily mean low%. And this link will be updated very soon, because the any% will be improved big time.

It is now possible to do 'game end glitch' in 5-6 minutes on console under RTA conditions. It uses an RTA-friendly setup not seen in any TAS so far. Watch it here: http://www.twitch.tv/sethbling/c/5926745
This is a console-confirmation of a previous TAS with BizHawk. Explanation.

Seems pretty fake to me. A shame, because I wanted to see how much time an AI would last in a pit hack.

What have you actually done? If you have something to submit (on SMW, I guess), post the movie in its thread.

Snes9x version 1.53
I don't know if TAS Movie Editor supports version 1.53, but versions 1.51 and 1.52 work fine: http://sourceforge.net/projects/tas-editor/ Some emulators have a built-in movie editor. Some movie formats store the input in plain text and you can edit it with any text editor. The list is here: http://tasvideos.org/EmulatorResources/Features.html#41inputDataInText

settings.get: Get value of setting • Syntax: string settings.get(string name) Get value of setting <name>. If setting value can't be obtained, returns (nil, error message). What's the list of possible settings? I want be able to setup the size of the Window when I start the emulator, but that seems impossible. I also want to keybind the emulator speed (targetfps), but I can't. The commands set-setting, get-setting and show-settings are also absent from rr2 version.

Sooooooooooooooooooo why is this still here? Because that is not a funny TAS.
People at AGDQ laughed, if I remember well. And so did I. I think this TAS should be here, and not in the glitchy TAS award.

Under Windows 7, if we press Alt or F10, the menu in the upper part of the window("File") is selected. This is specially annoying if some hotkey has Alt or F10. Is there any reasonable way to fix it?

Probably related to SBI subchannels. Check this too. EDIT: download the sbi file and test if it works in Mednafen.

Is it really 'glitchy' when you modify the mechanics of the game with your own, instead of abusing of the default bugs? Of course getting there is glitchy, but what about what happens after that?

Snes9x 1.43: massive lag reduction in pretty much every game. That's why this version is forbidden now in this site. Snes9x >= 1.51 doesn't suffer from this big difference. They might have more lag than the console, actually.

ah so the yellow switch inside the palace is not a sprite but an object?
In fact, you can't eat the switch, but you could (theoretically, via item swap, but seems impossible) eat the invisible block that is present in the room. Sprite 0x6d is inedible but it curiously has the "give powerup when eaten by Yoshi" flag, just like the Chucks. I have tested a little bit now, but only crashed the game. EDIT: something good can come out of this. Eating it small or with the first PI after the flower gives a feather in the item box.
