I think this whole thread is very unprofessional because here you make fun of people's videos, and my brother (youtube.com/Caffieine) and I both agree that TASVideos has no right to do this, so we will now take action and kindly ask the Administrators to delete this trollish thread. Also, I no longer want to discuss this "Speedruns Galore" thing with you guys since you guys are just being jerks about it and mocking and making fun of me, and also, TASEditor, I saw the comment you posted on my video. It was mean, and I want PEACE; I repeat; PEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCEEEEEE in this community, please?

Out of curiosity, I decided to visit the Speedruns Galore forum you so proudly display in your signature. I laughed when I saw the following forum stat; the greatest number of people you ever had on there, simultaneously, was 2. I can't make this up. Focus- This will be nowhere near as funny if you don't follow the fighting game scene, but nevertheless, this is genius; Link to video
Notice how my Speedruns Galore video has 18 LIKES!

Speedruns are all the same. They use glitches to save time, skip countless levels to save time, mash buttons quickly to save time, lose health to save time, and of course, beat the game ASAP. I have three questions: 1.) How do you walk in place? 2.) How do you walk backwards? 3.) Why did you only get a mushroom instead of a fire flower? If you kill bowser with a fire flower and then get the axe, there will be no stopping cutscene where he falls into the lava, you just go straight to Toad. Why didn't you do this trick? It saves about 1 and a half seconds.

Thank goodness, we're not gonna get sued. I am so obsessed with TASing that I think about it all the time, so I was concerned about this, because pretty much my whole life here is based on using emulators to abuse glitches and tricks in video games. I would probably die if we got sued. Now that you've explained this, now we're okay, so there is no point in continuing this topic.

I called Nintendo of America customer service yesterday, and they said using an emulator is illegal, and that you will get a huge fine if you do. I hope this NEVER happens to any of you guys, and I just wanted you to be aware, because I was worried. It's for your own good. Do NOT tell ANY game companies about TASVideos, or we will get sued for possibly millions of dollars, and there WILL be no TASVideos.org anymore. Be careful, and it sounds ridiculous that I'm even bringing this topic up, and I'm not saying we should stop TASing. I'm saying that I really care about you guys, and we should all the right to do what we want to, and the game companies come up with these ridiculous distribution rules, and I can't take it anymore. Please help me. If we get sued, then it's gonna be very tragic, so BE CAREFUL!

You're having such misconception because you're newbie to TASing. For an experienced TASer those "tricks" you're talking about are trivial to do. While in real-time speedrunning people may physically lack skills needed to pull a trick, in TASing anyone can learn and reproduce any trick if they really want to. That's why speed is not as entertaining in TAS as it is in RTS. Being fast is not a talent here, it's a routine. You don't have to be creative to make an optimized run. In fact you don't need to be a human, you might as well be an advanced robot who has simple objective and plenty of time to achieve it. The real value of TAS reveals when people create and discover new aspects of games. Now, THAT is hard to do. As for speed... it's only common practice, not an ultimate goal like in real-time speedruns.
Yes, I'm working on a TAS! I made a TAS with the time "21:02.94", but I used VirtuaNES so I can't submit it here. I just submitted it on Speedruns Galore, who doesn't care what emulator you use, which is another argument I might put on a different topic. Anyway, I'm making a TAS with an accepted emulator VBA 21, and I keep fixing parts that aren't FAST not caring if they are entertaining or not, and the AutoFire and AutoHold functions are doing most of the work for me, so it's pretty easy until you watch it and see you messed up on a part of the run, then you have to do it ALL OVER AGAIN! My goal is to become the fastest TASer in the world, and I'm no-where near that yet. I am not focusing on trading speed for entertainment.

There are a lot of examples of different games that could be entertaining aimed for the fastest time or to be most entertaining, but I don't see any point in wasting frames just to make a run more entertaining. I think a lot of people probably use the speed/entertainment tradeoffs as an excuse for not knowing how to do a certain trick properly. I think if you don't know how to do a trick, just be honest with people and play without the trick instead of trading it off. That's just lame. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe people don't do that, but the thing is, speed IS entertainment to me. If you have a point when you're just waiting for something to happen and you might as well do something else while you wait (such as Footrace with Koopa the Quick in SM64) would be a great time to show off some really fast button presses and random glitches that are not needed but are very entertaining instead of risking losing a couple frames just to entertain someone. This is just my point of view, and I don't want to "fight" like someone above said. I just want to be me, and I think you all who think about "fighting" should do the same.

If people want to trade off speed for entertainment, then why does TAS stand for Tool-Assisted "Speed"run? I understand it can also stand for Tool-assisted superplay, but I think of that as like a random route, glitchfest, or freerun.

But speed IS entertainment to me. I understand it only saves a few frames, but I attempt to get the FASTEST TIME for my GBA DKC3 TAS. I can't even find any places to trade of speed for entertainment...

Well, here on TASVideos, entertainment is actually a bit more preferred over speed, due to the fact that a video could be very boring to watch even if it is the fastest possible.
But Speedruns Galore doesn't care HOW entertaining the run is, just as long as it's fast, and it records all the records for the entire game in particular out there in a certain category. And Speedruns Galore needs to get a REAL server, not just use google sites, because there is a limit to how much you may post using Google Sites, and it's also just a crappy way to make a website.

1) Only one topic per game is preferred, so that someone looking for information on a specific game will find everything in one place. 2) From the welcome page:
We make these movies because they are entertaining to watch
Some people on the site do feel that at least one run of each game should be published, regardless of how (un)entertaining the movie is, but still, poor game choice is grounds for rejection and runs of boring games have been rejected in the past just for bad game choice. See also: List of bad game choices, Guidelines: Game selection and Examples of bad game choices.
"Bad Game Choice"? Really? I think that AitMK is actually a really fun game. I don't see why you all think it's boring. :(

Its simply when a trick that saves time is not used for the sake of entertainment for the viewer, either because its annoying, or is too repetitive. A good example of this is that in the Pokemon Gotta Catch Them All run, having HP in the red will stop Pokemon battle cries from happening (making attacks go faster), however the beeping noise the low HP causes would be extremely annoying, so it's not used.
That's ridiculous. I think that no matter what, TASes should aim for the absolute fastest time and entertainment if POSSIBLE! Although, I thought it meant that you do whatever you want while waiting for a certain thing to happen.

Well done. I REALLY liked this run. I just watched this to see some good routes for my GBA version run. I see I'll have to start this all over again, because I missed the warp barrels. :( And I liked the entertainment tradeoffs. They really were entertaining. :) My favorite entertainment tradeoffs are when you walk backwards. How do you even do that? o_o

It means that the game is being played in a way that causes it to give a better ending sequence than normal (the best, to be precise). For instance, Sonic games often have, in their ending, a message saying that you have to collect all the Chaos Emeralds but didn't, if you don't; this counts as an ending other than the best one (although in Sonic games, "best ending" is probably the same as "100%"; the category's more useful in games where the two differ). Quite a lot of games only have one ending which counts as a win, by the way, in which case the "best ending" tag is meaningless and isn't used. If you have questions about what counts as the best ending for any specific game, you can ask in the game thread (and I guess you can also ask here, because any question can be asked here, including duplicates).
So, lemme get this straight. Is Super Mario Bros. an example of a game like this? Best ending would be to get a fire flower before World 8-4, and then kill Bowser with a fire flower before you get an axe in a Super Mario Bros. any% run. This means that the floor won't disappear, which makes a faster ending sequence. Is this an example of a "best ending" run, or do I not really get it?

I've seen that people have posted submissions that say "best ending" after them. What does that mean?

http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4640 I edited my post and for some reason it posted it 4 times, and I have no idea why. Is this a bug with the site? So does that mean you would be doing Autopia and the train stage several times? I really don't think that's a good idea: this game has been criticized heavily for being boring as is, and repeating some of the more boring stages just to collect stars wouldn't help that at all. If you want to have a shot at your movie being published on the site, I'd say just stick to the any% and create a well optimized run. I can already tell you now that a 100% following your (somewhat arbitrary) definition will have a very low chance of being published. And I don't mean to sound harsh, I'm just being realistic here.
Autopia will have to be done at least 2 times, the first time I will just collect all the stars on one of the slower detours and then die on purpose. Then I will collect the rest of the stars and then complete the level. After I collect enough stars for 1 life, I will IMMEDIATELY (and I mean frame-precisely) get another life until I have enough lives to go through the train stage at least 3 times, because there are 3 detours which all have 1 or 2 different stars. On 2 of the turns, I will have to die on purpose. And then I will complete the level with the rest of the stars. The Ghost House and the Pirate Level will most definitely be entertaining, since I will be making some very entertaining jumps in those two levels. Also, I have two questions: 1.) Why did someone put these two topics together? It's confusing. 2.) I thought TASVideos was for best records, not just for entertainment. Wouldn't the watcher of my TAS only want the fastest time?

FCEUX's TAS Editor helps much more as you can see the result of your changes on fly.
Wow, that's cool. Thanks for teaching me about the TAS editor. Which version of FCEUX is most efficient? Also, do you have to download something else with it, such as a TAS plugin?

Fine then. I guess I'm just gonna have to start my big AitMK project all over again, but this time I'm using FCEU, the new program I just downloaded.

Since only input files for the NES with the extension .fm2 is allowed, I'm not sure if VNES 0.93 would be an acceptable emulator; unless of course, it generates .fm2 files. Good luck!
