I vote yes. Awesome concept. Also, you probably shouldn't judge based on whether you think other people will notice what makes it special.
Though I do think some heavily glitchable games like Mega Man and Duck Tales might be better, for people who complain about those runs being unwatchable.
edit:minor weird change
It's been awhile since I've posted here, but I've been thinking about a new type of run. Specifically, one that prioritizes finishing the game with the fewest button presses possible. Of course, buttons that are held down across multiple frames in an unbroken sequence count as a single button press.
Speed would be the second priority, provided it doesn't interfere with the first priority.
The reason I like this idea is because it could potentially satisfy viewers who are turned off by runs that become nearly unviewable with glitches. Also, I'm thinking it would be funny to see really hard games played with as little effort as possible.
I've come to really dislike FCEUX for a couple of reasons:
1. It seems to lag and slow down more than FCEU, and when it does, the sound stutters, which is distracting and inaccurate to what you would get from actually playing an NES.
2. FCEUX has horrible fullscreen support. Every time I press alt+enter to go fullscren(with no menus or toolbars), I can't get out until I press ctrl+alt+delete. Usually you just press alt+enter again, but at least with my version of FCEUX, it doesn't let you get out.
edit: Also, I'm running it on XP, so it's not because it's and older OS that it's slower. FCEUX just seems to be more of a resource hog in general.
edit2:My first problem seems to go away by using the 'set-high priority thread' option in timing. That makes things a little better.
This game desynced for me every time on every variation of snes9x I have, and "allow left+right" was automatically checked. Can you provide more details on what setting works?
edit 1:And the rom is (U)
edit 2: I just got it working, Somehow by starting the movie as soon as the game starts, as opposed to waiting ten seconds or whatever. wierd
I suggest starting from level 15 or 16 (which ever is the last one you can start without a password).
I think that would be more entertaining, since some of the early levels like #2 are just mostly mindless collecting.
actually, according to Wikipedia it's 33%, but good point anyway.
Of course he's totally allowed to publish or not publish whatever he wants, I think Bisqwit needs to ask if he's really going to prevent someone from publishing a tas because they write something he finds offensive.
It should be noted that the atheists on this website most likely already know Bisqwit is christian (if you've seen his profile). They(We) have the decency and open-mindedness to enjoy the website and Bisqwit's runs even though he is a christian. Just remember that.
Are you playing on a console or on an emulator?
I've played games on my gameboy before that would bug out and disassemble levels because the cartridge got dislodged.
I can't believe anyone dislikes this run. I think the only way you actually could make a Mega Man run entertaining is by using glitches and aiming for the fastest possible time.
It seems like there are plenty of people who despise Tool assisted speedruns as it is, imagine if we took away the ultimate goal of fastest time and just started "showing off".
I think TASes lose ALL meaning once they step outside the boundaries of perfection.
Once TASes aren't cold and perfect, they become very deceptive speedruns.
This run brings back memories of me beating the game entirely with Tails as the lead character, not realizing when the other characters were going to show up.
It seems easier/faster to play with him, and yet, Team Sonic assumes you'll use Sonic exclusively.
Actually, that might have been my post that got deleted.
I was talking about a particularly long shaft on level 3-1, which is usually only accessible with knuckle's slow climbing.
But if you can manage it with Tails, that would make all the difference.
I finally got to see your test run Nitsuja. Excellent work!
I have a question though. You say that the Cream/Sonic team can be faster than the Tails/Sonic team, does this mean that for getting the fastest level times, you would need to go back and do the levels again?
Or are you just getting the fastest time based on what characters you have at the time of playing the levels?
Edit: I'm an idiot, there's no redoing levels. Missed that part.
What I was saying about the Tails/Sonic team is pretty much exclusively based on the assumption that you're going for a pure speed, single segment run. I would say that using this team, then going directly from level to level, would be faster.
But as far as individual levels are concerned, I agree that it would be good to use Sonic/Tails in most of them.
edit: oh, and about which team is faster, it seemed to me that when playing the game casually, the Tails/Sonic team seemed to be much easier for speed, just because you can get such a massive speed boost quickly using Sonic as the second character.
edit2:okay, now that I've seen some of the runs on TSC, I can definitely see why sonic is faster, so never mind about what I was saying.
