Link to video Super quick encode. I trimmed out the long intro sequence to get right to the action. This is looking awesome so far!

Aha. You're using a modified GBA what? And what does the 'Modified' GBA? Please explain me the different to the 'Original' one and the advantage(s).
They're, um, talking about how you literally can't press left + right on any unmodified stock controller, but you can do that on emulator. Some games react wildly when left + right are pressed because stock controllers aren't built to allow both of them being pressed at once.

Hey, 'sup, welcome to the site. Um... It seems like you put a lot of effort into this movie, but unfortunately we don't accept movies that don't complete the entire game... You should keep working on the run until it's complete, maybe find the game's thread in the GBA Games subforum and post WIPs there for feedback! So... yeah! Um... Enjoy your time here! this is awkward

I hardly know anything about the game, but this glitch is so interesting that I've recently been looking into it (and the game itself). Unfortunately, there are a couple problems I see that prevent it from saving as much time as it possibly could:
*The glitched character is still considered in the hole until they're roped out, and thus they lose HP with every step, meaning you're on a bit of a strict timer every time you do this glitch. It's nothing major, but it does limit the usefulness of the glitch early on in the game. *You apparently still need to level up to defeat Mamiya: According to the Sweet Home shrine, she needs to be hit with 80 Pray Points at the end of the battle, which is only possible starting at level 15.
That said, even with those limitations it's still a powerful glitch. If you can skip the 3 statues puzzle, then that's a decent chunk of grinding removed: You can just get to level 14 and use the party member battles in the final area to get up to 15. Even if you can't skip the 3 statues, there's still a lot of time to save, since you could conceivably just skip around the map to pick up weapons and items and start grinding in the later areas for faster EXP earlier on. I'd be interested in seeing what a glitched run would look like and I may even be interested in doing it myself in the future, though I'd need either a lot of time to study the game or a couple knowledgeable partners to team up with in order to actually know what I'm doing.

The encode in the submission text appears to be a playlist of all your uploads... Here's the isolated TAS: Link to video This is a good skull retrieval simulator, but it needs more Tony Yayo and violent hip-shaking.

What was improved, exactly? Your comments in this thread make it seem like all that was improved was menuing, which makes the co-author thing seem a little iffy to me.

Honestly, it reads more like a joke to me, like "I'm already putting in a hundred links, might as well have some fun with it".

Every other 2D Sonic run aims for in-game time, this one shouldn't be any different.

Yeah, um, good luck with this. I mean you could just keep learning and getting better at TASing and engaging with this community, but why bother doing that when you can start a whole new site purely dedicated to people who never listen to constructive criticism and never learn from their mistakes?

This isn't a bug. Updated is the key word on that page. Something changed on that particular submission, so it's listed in that section. I'm not entirely sure what has to change for an updated submission to be listed there, possibly even something as small as changing the description or fixing a typo, but either way it's intentional.

Aside from what I posted earlier, I'd like to finish and submit at least 3 runs this year instead of getting into a run and abandoning it for one reason or another, and I'd also like to get a little more involved in the community in general: Talking to more people, hanging out in the IRC maybe, collaborating on runs since DTC5 has been a blast so far, not accusing people of being misogynists or narcissists... Y'know, those sorts of things.

I'd also like to add something that I think a lot of newcomers miss: This site isn't a repository for just any old TAS that anyone makes. If you want a run published on the site, you have to beat all existing records, including runs only seen on Youtube or Nicovideo or Youku or, hell, even other TAS-based sites since apparently those exist. Your first attempts at any run will almost never be good enough to be published. That holds true for damn near everyone on this site: Even experienced TASers miss some things the first time around. At the very least, I'd suggest trying to improve your runs immediately after finishing them instead of submitting them to the site... well, not that you can submit to the site at the moment, but that's subject to change if you take the time to hone your skills. And honestly, I'd also suggest maybe taking a step back from SMW at the moment. You seem to know some of the tricks and mechanics, which is always nice, but the game's been optimized to death by the community and it'd be near-impossible to get anything published at your current skill level. If you really want to TAS SMW, you'll have to put in a hell of a lot more effort and start getting active in the community and learning from the people who have been TASing the game for years. Just ignore the (thankfully few) bad eggs who will publicly ridicule you for not knowing certain speed tricks. Try something more simple for now: Here's a sizable list of currently published runs that you could try to improve. Pick a game you know, study the current run, revive the game thread on the forums and take a shot at it. Try to beat the first stage faster than the published run, then try to beat the first stage faster than that, then post a WIP and see what people think. The most important thing I can say is this: Stick around. Don't get discouraged by a rejected run or someone telling you that your movie can be improved. We have quite a few active people in the community that took a while to settle in and improve their skills, and it's always really refreshing to see other people like that. As long as you keep working, you'll keep improving.

Definitely seconding. He had a lot of variety (different consoles, 2D and 3D, genres) in the many runs he's had published this year, and each one had the same (very high) level of optimization and quality, something that you rarely see from a single TASer.

I'll make that nomination official, then. You've improved a hell of a lot since joining, which is what I personally find most befitting of the award: Having the dedication to keep trying and improving your skills is an example that more rookies should be learning from. All my other choices were brought up already... Damn, this year's been really good for newcomers. This one's gonna be close.

The simplest solution would probably be to hold off on TASing the game until Bizhawk 2.0 is released with the Mednafen PSX core. Also, you can disable HTML in posts if square brackets are a huge part of that config.

You're in the wrong saying that this and anything else you make deserves TAS of 2014 more than anything else. I'm sure this will be a great run because THC98 worked on it and his Sonic Adventure runs were awesome, but this isn't "drumming up hype". It's just self-aggrandizing.
