Won't be able to watch until an encode is made, but for my money this is very much a category in need of a run. Unbridled glitchfests aren't for everyone (especially some newer viewers) and Megaman is, it goes without saying, a hugely popular game, so there will be people coming to this site wanting to see a "normal" Megaman TAS. Of course, there is also a debate to be had about what counts as a glitch and what is merely a trick. EDIT: I see the name has been changed to "no zipping". What about DelayStageClear?

Hi. Welcome to tasvideos! For a comprehensive TASing manual: http://www.fceux.com/web/help/taseditor/index.html?BeginnersGuide.html If you feel you are ready to make a run to be published: http://tasvideos.org/Guidelines.html For choosing a game, different people give different advice. Some people say you should TAS an obscure but simple game which hasn't already been TASed by other people so you stand a good chance of being published; other suggest TASing a game that has already been TASed so you can compare your efforts to theirs, learning from the experts. But I can't give you any more advice than that because I've never TASed myself.

[564] GBC Pokémon: Gold Version by FractalFusion in 2:54:27.15 So....any news on what to do with this?
Well, nobody has made an argument for it to be moved to moon tier, so I'm guessing that by default it should be obsoleted by the new movie. There is at least one other case of a Vault run which is ineligible for the Vault: [949] GB Metroid II: Return of Samus by Cardboard in 45:08.42

Looks like someone beat the current TAS record...in real time.
Can't these real-time runners give the TAS community a break? TASers only regained the record two weeks ago.

Yup, that's (mostly) my work. Since I documented Coin Case in the first place, I figured I might as well do a route to beat the game faster than the TAS(es), in real time. You can see the current route over here. I have a very theoretical route for a TAS, too, but it's still in the works. It would involve extremely heavy RNG abuse. (And hopefully no boxes.)
Wow, that's really incredible, Sanky. I will never understand how these tricks get found. I believe that FractalFusion is has some ideas regarding the coin case too - maybe you could collaborate?

I don't think it's decided yet if this run gets a moon or a star has it? I think the old one got a moon since it was deemed to complicated for newbies to get what is going on. They might think warping directly to tower colapse is accomplished by cheating. On the other hand, more and more people get into and know about speed running, so maybe that isn't actually an issue anymore?
There's surely nothing in here that isn't more confusing than what's going on in these starred movies: [2341] GBC Pokémon: Yellow Version "arbitrary code execution" by FractalFusion in 03:14.15 [2021] GB The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening "playaround" by Bobmario511 in 40:22.78 [1686] NES Mega Man by Shinryuu & finalfighter in 12:23.34 I think some stars should have really technical, straight out nonsensical stuff because stars are meant to be representative of TASes as a whole, and some TASes really are like that.

Sorry for being a negative Nancy, but this run deserves a star. It is amazing in every way imaginable and a moon is disappointing.
That's probably because the judge has decided to wait for the movie to be rated before a decision gets made

Man I suddenly want to nominate Pocket Bomberman. I hadn't watched it until I saw it nominated on the glitchy run category and good God is it awesome! (Plus it would be nice to have representation from more than two series.) Too late though :(

Well things got a bit ugly here didn't they? The first couple of pages of comments are mostly "zomg wtf this is da best tas EVA masterjun you fking god"-type comments, and now there's this big old argument about whether or not it should even be published. The problem is that arbitrary execution TASes essentially come in two parts. The first part is internally gaining control of the software to allow you to execute code, the second is the code you choose to execute. The relative importance of these is different for different people. For some people, the very fact that code can be executed is what is so fascinating, and what is done with it is a minor consideration, while for others, the payload can make or break the TAS. Each group has a complaint. For those focusing on the point before code execution only, up to that point the TAS is identical to the previous SMW TAS and as a result this run offers nothing new. For those interested in the payload, well, they can find the payload boring, although obviously some will be entertained by the payload and honestly I feel this would have been much more entertaining in the context of AGDQ, especially from the point of view of a watching real-time runner unaware of the concept of arbitrary code execution. Personally, I am more intrigued by the ability to execute code rather than what is done with it, as the whole point is that literally anything can be done once you have got the game into that state, so seeing what somebody picks isn't that impressive. I want to see this published, but what I do not want to see is ten other people subsequently copying masterjun's SMW run and using it to execute their own code. because none of this really adds anything to TASing as a whole.

A thought; if the first 1 min 40 of this run are the same as the finish-as-quickly-as-possible movie, does that count as an obsoletion?

Not much to say that hasn't already been said. Obvious yes, obvious star.

How did I miss this one? Precise enemy manipulation, intricate route-planning, and a fair few glitches, this TAS has a little bit of everything.

- Certain that catching Abra naturally would be faster, by about two minutes, since it also saves a fight required to get the Coin Case. I was going to ask about this but assumed I was misremembering where it appeared. This is presumably a relic from the RTA route, where a 10% chance to find a Pokemon is too low to be relied upon. - Not sure about Goldeen, you'd have to test it. - I reckon evolving Totodile would probably still be worth it because it would make the upcoming Silver battle quicker.

Well, in my eyes [564] GBC Pokémon: Gold Version by FractalFusion in 2:54:27.15 should be obsoleted, because the old Pokemon Gold is neither entertaining (the community's judgement, not mine) nor a speed record. This means, in some sense, it does not contribute anything to TASing literature.

Well, based on the original submission thread, it was popular enough to warrant acceptance at that time, so I guess this is one of those runs that didn't managed to stay popular over time. I think this also applies to another run.
I don't see where you got [931] NES Dragon Warrior III by dave_dfwm in 1:50:25.27 from. While the any% run is in the Vault, the "no item glitch" is a Moon and hence doesn't have to be obsoleted. That the shorter run is in the Vault is irrelevant.

It's a shame that nowadays this award seems to be about movies that execute one glitch and end the game, rather than movies that perform a variety of entertaining glitches all the way through.

Glitching a main character through walls is fairly commonplace in the TASing world, but glitching a boss through a wall? Ocarina of Time is a gift that keeps on giving.

Looks like Mothrayas has done his very best to make sure this year's award isn't given to a Pokemon game.

Haven't watched, but have seen enough of the WIPs to give this a yes vote. Seeing this and a new OoT pop up on the workbench almost simultaneously has made my day. Good luck to the encoders: a five-hour movie on Dolphin. If we assume encoding time is proportional to movie length, then, going by the SSBM movie, this one will be published some time in 2016.

Just a quick question: what happens to the old run now it doesn't have a vaultable goal? Oh, and congrats. A two-hour obsoletion of a seven-year-old movie. Those don't happen very often. EDIT: I also believe that those figures warrant a "major improvement" tag.

Finally got round to watching this and got exactly what I expected. That is, I really enjoyed it. I have a feeling there are improvements to come but it's crazy to expect the first run of a totally new route like this to be thoroughly optimal. Yes vote.
