Comments

I can't speak English well so there are lots of mistakes in the grammar. This run is 170 frames faster than the last movie.I describe the main improvement part.
  • I saved 21 frames in 3-2
  • In 6-4 I jumped through two firebars and saved 105 frames in total,As for this improvement, thank to MUGG and Happylee very much, for MUGG discovering it and Happylee told me it.
  • In 7-4 I kicked turtles several times ,I went through wall with the last turtle shell.I think this is an interesting route.this route also saved 21 frames for me
  • In 8-2 It is just 2 frames faster than the last movie, but it 21 frames saved.
  • In C-4, the situation was similiar to 7-4 but it didn't save time
  • In D-4,I tried to jump through the firebar at the beginning but I failed at last. The firebar came too fast so that I don't have enough time to jump out.so I chose to went through the wall.I use left-right rapid pressing to enfast more quickly at the end of stage D-4,and it saved 2 frames.
  • The Re-record Count isn't true.

Nach: Judging.
feos: HD encode.

Nach: Very nice improvement. Accepting.

Oh, my, I did not at all expect an improvement for this, and as I watched it, it was magnificient. The new skip in 7-4 and C-4 was especially fascinating, I never would've expected that. I'm also really glad you kept up the fire-flower massacre. Yes vote for a glorious improvement to a glorious run //I should point out that the run seems to have been created on a modified ROM. It does however sync fine with: Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World (U) [!].smc CRC32: F84305B1, v 1.0

Hi KFCMario. I knew you were not a troll when you made your first run of SMAS. I'll watch this in a sec.

Yes vote for a great improvement! :) I always love watching these SMAS: Lost Levels TASes. It looked tightly optimized and really well done overall. I thought you were some noob when I saw the double submission and the rerecord count, but it turns out that this was a great TAS

That was a great run. Loved the enemy massacre, and the new routes were really cool. Only disappointment is that each new run seems to get further and further from averaging 100,000 points per world, but that's just me being mildly OCD. Yes vote.

Yes, the audio was missing from about 3 seconds of the encode, but the audio was fine for the rest of the video. Great run, KFCMARIO! I also enjoyed shooting all of the fireballs at enemies without wasting time. Good job improving the currently published run. Yes vote!

Congratulations on your first submission here, KFCMario! Having watched 7-4, I particularly love the run. Those are all good improvements. I will watch the whole run in no time and bring more comments. Edit: Very good indeed. I enjoy watching it. The entertainment can be improved from my point of view by more accurate jumping and enemy manipulation, but it's good enough to be published here of course. Yes vote. Edit 2: I think this submission should be added a "warpless" branch, shouldn't it?
Recent projects: SMB warpless TAS (2018), SMB warpless walkathon (2019), SMB something never done before (2019), Extra Mario Bros. (best ending) (2020).

Oh wew… This run looks so much similar to a NES run… Even the same glitches can be found here o_O, like this game was developed by the same team and they used the same game physics… P.S.: Mario saved the princess, but let so many other girls go :-o too bad… Yes vote though :)

I noticed it too. Hope it's "just" an encoding flaw.

Encoding HD.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

I just wanted to point out that this write-up for the game is atrocious and misinformed. It's that bad.
The Lost Levels is the remake of the game released in Japan as Super Mario Bros 2; it is an exercise in Fake Difficulty, containing very difficult jumps, many enemies, problematic terrain, poisonous mushrooms, and, at worst, koopa jumps over walls or across pits. Most of it is senseless rehashing of elements in places where they don't belong (like amateur hacks). It's so difficult to beat that Nintendo of America released a wholly different game given a Mario theme as Super Mario Bros 2. Of all the games in Super Mario All-Stars, it's the only one in the set that saves your progress at individual levels rather than the start of worlds. It's that bad.

What's so bad about it? It sounds fine to me.

It's talking down the game to a tremendous degree, making it sound like something only a masochist would enjoy playing. It's a hard game, yes, but generally it's not unfairly hard, which is really what Fake Difficulty is about. The controls are tight (unless you're playing as Luigi anyway), the very first mushroom you find is poisonous (thus teaching you about the mechanic before you've sunk a lot of time in), and the puzzles are mostly about nonlinear thinking. Probably the most unfair point is the reverse warp zone, since you're being punished for finding a secret. That said, it is very hard -- I would say that it's probably a bit harder than the second quest in Legend of Zelda (while LoZ's first quest is harder than the original SMB), though I've replayed LoZ much more recently than I have SMB:LL. The comments about sticking elements where they don't belong is kind of strange because the original SMB (and this, which is basically a mission-pack sequel) don't have any thematic consistency anyway. Remember the fish in 8-4 in the original SMB? Suggested alternate description:
The Lost Levels is a remake of the game released in Japan as Super Mario Bros 2. It introduces a number of new obstacles into the standard Super Mario Bros. formula, including poisonous mushrooms, wind, reverse warp zones, and of course many tricky jumps. It's difficult enough that Nintendo of America decided to completely re-theme a different game and release that as Super Mario Bros. 2 instead; the Lost Levels is the first time the Japanese sequel was released to the rest of the world.

The description was more or less copied from the previous movie. That being said, I didn't copy blindly; I did read it. I'm not against changing it, but I want to give a bit of time for more people to provide feedback.

I do like Derakon's suggested publication text better than the current one. I played the game after I replied to Judge Ito's comment and I don't think the text describes it accurately either.

The description did stand out to me as being a little bit, um, hostile. It's difficult, sure, but not totally unfair. And unless we're counting the bogus world 9, there aren't really any cases of thematic inconsistency that stood out to me as being poor design.
