I'm currently making runs for Alladin and Lion King. Hopefully they will be finished in a few days.

Seeming as there's a SNES run, which I personally don't like (not the runs, but the game itself), why not make one on the Genesis one? I think it's a much better game for starters. I'll start making one myself but I don't actually know too much about this game so it probably won't be too impressive as a perfect run. Anyone interested in making one?

But TASvideos HAVE a Genesis's Aladdin. It's the first game of Genesis runs. http://tasvideos.org/movies.cgi?systemid=3

Note that this topic was made almost two years ago. "mike", the clueless idiot asking for ROMs with nothing to contribute to the topic, brought it to the top.

I'm really surprised that this game doesn't have much discussion, seeing as it makes a somewhat decent TAS. Anyway, after submitting two runs that almost immediately needed improvement, and considering for a while, I decided that it was important that I just go ahead and bump this topic, and upload the full WIP of the game that I have here. I'd like to hear what people have to say about my run, as the game is sort of glitchy, and it's definitely possible that some major timesavers have gone undiscovered (a few of you have helped me already, so thanks!). If no major improvements can be found, I'm ready to submit this file. If any improvements make themselves apparent, the run could even drop under 11 minutes! Thanks in advance

If no one has any complaints with this run by tonight, I'm going to submit it. Oh, since my last post, I've redone the first of the three death segments during the Rug Ride so that Aladdin's movements are more in sync with the music. And that mike post is hilarious. The other Aladdin thread (the very bottom one in this forum) is also pretty funny.

Around frame 6880 you don't seem to be using the fast slide... could you jump so reach the ground below faster and start another slide earlier?

I will watch this within the next few hours if I have a chance and comment if I see something wierd. I know the game pretty well.

Truncated: I'm pretty sure I wasn't able to run long enough to trigger the slide at that point. Also, if I jumped, wouldn't I hit the ground later? EDIT: Viewing that a second time, I think I see what you mean. The reason I didn't slide through the pokey bones is because it stops you dead for a bunch of frames if you get hit by one.

I think it actually is possible to make one slide there, if you jump down at the first possible frame, but then you need to kill the guard with apples or take damage. Maybe. At that same location, could you throw the snake with apples to make it die faster? It seems that you slow down there for a moment, because the sword is slow. Maybe. I'm not 100% sure about these things and the movie looks good in my opinion.

I'll see if I can splice in a slide at that point soon. Heroes is on now, however. I'll be back in an hour.

comments, porbably all wrong since I haven't played in a while: 1. can't you throw an apple at that one scarab (not the one int he hole or the final one) to activate it quicker? 2. I could have sworn there was a way to not do that entire floating section on the rope before fighting the boss that throws hamburgers or whatever. Like, grab the rope, let i get away, then grab the next one. everything else looks great though.

Do you mean through the wall, or approaching it from the right? I tried through the wall without success.

Aw, this does happen, but only if you ride the rope for the entire ride and then drop back down.
hamburgers
Haha, if only. Aladdin wouldn't be so hungry all the time! EDIT: I squeezed in that slide in the Desert, and it saved 15 frames!

Sorry, I meant while approaching from the right.

Looking at the non TAS speedrun, there does appear to be a way to skip the entire rope ride in Level 3, because he does it there. Whether it's due to something earlier in the level (which the TAS skips over due to all the skidjumping) I don't know though.

I believe it is because of low health or full health. My memory is hazy, but having one or the other should let you skip the rope ride.

That's odd, I never knew about anything like that. I know the game has a few secrets that affect gameplay here and there, like backtracking to a previously visited portion of the level to find a 1-up that magically appeared. But having the rope sequence be skipped because of your health sounds weird. Anyway, if the run aims to use suicide to save time, dying 3 times on the Rug Ride level should prove to be faster. ...Or is it just something that happens on the easiest difficulties?

One thing I'd like to preserve for the game, at this spot in level 5, it is possible to jump through the ceiling/wall, end up below, and skip nearly the entire level -- but only on the DOS version. I have already talked to electrospecter about this, but, since it's impossible on the Mega Drive version (at least not so easily, I hope), the DOS version might just be viable to TAS as well

This would be a speed/entertainment trade-off that would make me sad. I, personally, would prefer to see that level TASed.

He skips one flute mid level that triggers the long rope ride.

Ah indeed, he grabs the flute doing a skid-jump to grab onto a rope. It's a slightly longer detour at that point to drop down there, but not 10 seconds worth of detour, so it does look like it would be a net gain overall.

Yep, it was a big mistake in the run. I shouldn't have grabbed that flute partway through. I have an improvement WIP that's... well I can't say it's really in the making because it's been so long since the first run, but I improved the first three levels by maybe 4-5 seconds not counting the time saved by skipping the flute. The last boss fight needs work too.
