Do I need to make a full speedrun, or am I able to just beat a boss?

A full run, and I'm pretty sure that there is already a Kirby 64 thread up, so go there if you need help, want to TAS or want to blow up Litchtenstein with a mini-bomb the size of a pen. (^_^) *Psst.... take my suggestions. Especially the bomb one!*
See Youtube page (GIRfanaticTAS) for all runs and stuff.

Please do not create new threads as we like to keep things tight and neaty as possible around here. This means you should always look up for an existing thread and post there. In this case, here: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3891&highlight= Locked.

It's been 3 years and this TAS isn't still done. Any progress?

People have been saying this game is too slow to be interesting, although I beg to differ. I believe Comicalflop was the last person to work on this, and then Forge started this and beat him by 3 seconds. I think this will be kinda neat to watch. Watch this and see what I mean: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/167610220/Kirby64%20%28USA%29.m64 (Note: This is my first time with Mupen, so it may not be optimized.)

Thanks for the WIP. I'll start a 100% run of this and hopefully finish it in the upcoming 15 years.

In regards to the test video up on youtube right now, Nahoc, will you be getting the cards on the picnic blankets in an actual 100% run?

The video on Youtube is only a test to see the various speeds and movements. I think you're right, though; a 100% speed run should also aims to collect all the "?" cards. It would also be much more entertaining instead of just seeing Kirby hopping in the air for nothing. Good point. Also, Sonnikustar and me are co-authoring this for now.

As far as I know, this is the fastest run of 1-1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocpA269T1zc Survive uploaded this video. Also he uploaded in nicovideo except Part 1. He used new trick which wasn't use in nicovideo. The new trick can be used when kirby is jumping. But I don't know the detail of new trick...

I just gotta ask. Has a 100% run had any planning done to it lately? I remember the last time someone was trying to do it, I think they may have stopped due to difficulties.

Survive had finished a 100% run once and he started to TASing 100% run. It's much faster than other vids. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2F1aYPsNXaY

It kinda looked like he used a lot of wasted input against the boss, though. Unless that was all for manipulation.

Well, sonicpacker and I are now working on a 100% TAS of this game. Here are our game objectives: • Defeat final boss • Collect all shards • Takes damage to save time We tested A LOT; fastest forms of movement, strats, etc. By using single-fire instead of double fire, we saved more than 3 seconds over survive's Youtube WIP. It turns out that single-fire is pretty much the fastest way to beat the mini-boss of world 1-1 too. We are actively working on it. We aren't aiming for any final time, as we are still at the very beginning of the run, but progress is made!

I don't recall the SDA run doing this. why are the enemy cards collected? How much time is wasted per card collected?

Hmm, aren't there way more enemies than there are levels? So wouldn't you have to play through the shortest level a few dozen extra times to repeat the bonus game to get all the cards?

You guys are both right. In my mind, a 100% run would aim to collect all the enemy cards, but, as Bag of Magic Food mentionned, we'd need to replay some levels to get them all. I think we'll just call this run a "All shards run" instead of a "100% run". Thanks for mentioning, guys.

Can you actually get all the cards from a single level? I seem to remember trying to replay a single level multiple times to get cards I was missing, and discovering that I could only get certain cards from certain levels--it needs to be tested!

I think that you need to kill an enemy to get that enemy's card at the end. If an enemy is not in a stage, you can't get its card in that stage.

I think that XkyRauh's question was whether or not you could get all the cards that are obtainable from a given level in a single pass, not whether or not you can get all of the cards in the game from a single level. I could be wrong though.

That question would make even less sense, since you obviously get only one shot at the bonus game per time you complete a level.

Ah, well. I haven't actually played the game, so I guess I was missing vital context. :)

If I recall correctly enemy cards don't count to the completion %, so it would still end up with 100% and could be called a 100% run.
