TAS Framework Requirements Updated
posted by Memory Yesterday
We have finally overhauled our requirements page for accepting new TAS frameworks. The page was previously written with primarily emulators in mind, but the page is now written to be friendly to single game tools such as CelesteTAS and GZ, the Ocarina of Time Practice ROM as well as large scope frameworks that are not emulators by definition such as libTAS. As TASers adapt new and creative ways of TASing games, we must keep up and accept these sorts of tools as well.
If you are interested in us accepting any sort of TASing framework, please reach out to an administrator or an administrator assistant. Also worth noting that these requirements are by no means final. If you have concerns that a framework you're using does not pass the requirements listed, we would be happy to discuss and negotiate. There is also discussion in Thread #22894: Potential support for single game/series/engine tasing tools.
Load State: a TASVideos Monthly Recap (June 2026)
posted by ikuyo 4 days ago
Hello! It is I, ikuyo, definitely on time. No, your schedule is behind! Anyway, I already made you wait longer than usual, let's get a Load of this State.
... was that anything?
- Starting of with an instant classic, [7167] FDS Super Mario Bros. "game end glitch" by threecreepio, OnehundredthCoin, HappyLee, Simplistic6502 & Kosmic in 05:29.957 is a major technical breakthrough for Super Mario Bros! After the discovery of ACE in SMB2J, the technical community for the games went on to search for a similar glitch in the original, and ultimately found it with the Famicom Disk System release. The story of this find is in itself as entertaining as the movie, and I highly recommend both the author notes and the additional video made by Kosmic, retelling the story of this find and how it was pulled off in the end.
- [7169] A2600 Galaxian by eien86, SelflessVanity & nymx in 05:47.464 is a collaboration effort possible as three players, including the original judge for the first submission, all found improvements to push this shoot em up further. It is a breezy watch!
- [7174] Genesis Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon by GoddessMaria in 23:41.981 is a really enjoyable movie filled with fun playaround movement and efficient combat. Watch as Sailor Venus kicks, whips and throws her way across several stages, with such speed that she breaks thru the gameplay limits and hits bosses thru cutscenes!
- [7183] PSX Mega Man X5 Improvement Project Addendum "all stages" by M3 in 40:31.956 is a movie with all the goodies you expect from Mega Man X (or I guess Zero) action! Dashing, wall jumps, and boss fights so short you will not want to blink during them.
- [7188] GB Final Fantasy Adventure by prieR57 in 1:30:24.113 is a wonderful debut, as prieR57 brings their RTA knowledge of this RPG to the TAS table and improves the existing publication by two and a half minutes! Congratulations on your first publication!
- I've had Star Fox in my mind lately for... some reason. Not sure why. And if you have too, this is a good time to watch [7190] N64 Star Fox 64 "Main Game, minimum score" by WarHippy in 56:15.200, and see as Fox decides that today he doesn't feel like doing anything, and delivers the bare minimum he can by playing patient, downing his own allies, and getting Wolf to do the job for him.
- I heard once that Superman often feels like he lives in a world made of cardboard, and he rarely gets to show how powerful he really is. If you crave a tasting of his power, watch [7196] Genesis Justice League Task Force by alexheights1 in 05:50.952 and enjoy Superman infinite his way thru the Justice League and Darkseid with literal superhuman efficiency.
- I have a lot of fondness for those strange RPG-esque sports anime games for the SNES, mostly about Captain Tsubasa, that never made it to the Americas. The need to adapt the look and feel of those manga into the capabilities of early consoles led to a type of game very different to the usual sports titles we are more familiar with. As such, [7197] GB Honoo no Toukyuuji: Dodge Danpei by KusogeMan in 43:36.029 hit me right in the nostalgia with its menu focused gameplay system and charming art. If you want a look at those kinds of games executed with the talent of KusogeMan, this is your chance!
- [7199] NES Pinball "100000 points, glitched" by eien86 in 00:29.668 is a fun glitchy take on the most popular speedrun category for NES Pinball, as eien86 finds a glitch that boosts his score and breaks the game all at once!
- [7211] PC The Mystery at Greveholm by Emil_Borg in 08:34.531 is another movie that brings me back to games of my childhood, and it is executed well too!
- Remember when part of judging sometimes involved figuring out if something is even a video game? While you ponder those questions, go and enjoy [7216] PC West Point Bridge Designer by CoolKirby in 00:03.511, and congratulate CoolKirby on his civil engineer diploma!
- ChesetheStickman has found his calling in TASing weird mascot kart games, and [7220] DS Crazy Chicken: Star Karts by ChesetheStickman in 22:52.060 is definitely a game! In some ways less broken than Garfield Kart, in others significantly more broken. If you enjoy absolutely disrespecting the rules of kart racing, this is the movie for you!
- I have a confession to make to you all: I don't watch many DOOM TASes. This is because I can't play or even watch much of classic DOOM as the game just really triggers my motion sickness. Even then, I can absolutely admire the craft of [7221] PC Doom II: Cold Front by Dimon12321 in 04:07.265, with its extremely precise movement and combat.
- And to wrap it all up, what about a fruit salad for dessert? Well, [7234] NES Donkey Kong Jr. "all fruits" by SelflessVanity in 01:13.146 will fill you up with a lot of sweet goodness, vine abuse and the occasional taunt to Mario.
Dustforce DX + Dustmod is now accepted for submissions! Get dusting!
posted by ikuyo 6 days ago
Put on your best overalls and ready your brooms. It's time for some Tool Assisted Sweeping.
As of today, Dustmod is now officially allowed for submissions and publication, making TASes of Dustforce DX made with it publishable on site! Dustforce DX is a movement centric platform game with 4 acrobatic janitors jumping, wall running and dashing their way thru complex landscapes all to achieve their goal of keeping clean. The game has had an active speedrunning and TAS community for short of a decade by now, and we are happy to have worked with them to make their Nexus scripting tools acceptable on site.
Thanks to Riokaii for acting as our bridge with that community and bringing us up to speed with the details of Dustmod usage, and to Samsara and fsvgm777 to testing sync and identifying specific issues.
This makes Dustmod the 4th single game engine now compatible with the site this year, joining the ranks of CelesteTAS, Coffee Tools and GZ. If you would like some guidance on using the tool, check out our Emulator Resources page!
Competition Spotlight #3 (June 2026)
posted by kierio04 11 days ago
Hello everyone! Welcome to the third ever Competition Spotlight! I'm kierio04, and it's time for a review of all TAS Competitions from June 2026.
MKWii TAS Competition 2026 (Mario Kart Wii)
Trackmania now has a full ecosystem of competitions to choose from, ranging quality, frequency, and popularity. TASmania (Trackmania Nations Forever) TASmania, the flagship competition, is showing no signs of faltering.
That's it for June! If you've made it this far, thanks for reading! If you're interested at all in seeing more of what these communities do, consider joining their competitions! Participation helps keep these things going. If you like the idea of a TAS Competition, but there isn't one for the game you TAS, consider starting one yourself! I look forward to writing again July!
MKWii TAS Competition 2026 (Mario Kart Wii)
- 31 May to 6 Jun: Task 8 2026: Action! (32 competitors, won by Kawediloru). This was a rare one-week task, owing to the fact that the task itself was incredibly short. Competitors were given the 1 week to perform a sequence of actions in any order after exiting the cannon on Maple Treeway. This concept was inspired by the similar (and also popular) Task 8 2022 from the SM64 TAS Comp.
- 7 Jun to 20 Jun: Task 9 2026: An Alternate History (42 competitors, won by Kawediloru). In this task, competitors had 2 weeks to simply complete the first lap of custom track Wario's Collapsing Castle using all 3 mushrooms. What made this task special is that it was held on the five-year anniversary of the first collaboration between the MKWii TAS Competition and the track-creating competition Custom Track Jams. These collaborations took place from 2021 to 2024, and each were big crossover events enjoyed by both communities alike!

- 16 Jun to 26 Jun: MTC 2 (8 competitors, won by Thoman)
- 15 Jun to 23 Jun: Short Map Frenzy (8 competitors, won by Thoman). In this competition, you had 7 days to make a TAS on 7 different short maps. Based on your placement on each map, you get a certain score, and the person with the highest score wins the competition! Times were incredibly close, as you might expect, with winning margins for some maps being only 0.01 or 0.02 seconds!
- 15 Jun to 23 Jun: T3 #1 (4 competitors, won by Sneak). 4th place had a time of 4 hours, 59 minutes, and 44.14 seconds! This is also completely useless information!
- 1 Jun: Short-02 (2 competitors, won by Fabi)
- 2 Jun: Noseboost. (1 competitor, won by Fabi)

Cave Story (2004) is a famous freeware indie game notable for being made entirely by one person, Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya.
Watch as nitsuja completely destroys this difficult game with amazingly precise movement. This playthrough saves Curly and finishes with the best ending after beating Ballos.
The program used to make this run, Hourglass, was also developed by nitsuja—with the creation of this run in mind. As such, it is our first published run of a Windows game.
