anyone knows what was used to create this video? http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm16162490 It appears to be a TAS of Time Crisis II on PS2
There's a whole bunch of TAS videos there. I'm just watching the GTA3 one, and it certainly looks TASy to me. I'll try to find out what was used to create this.

Thanks for the insightful comments guys! I guess "possible but infeasible" is better than impossible, but will have the same result in the end.

Just a thought I had the other day. I have no idea if this is even remotely possible as I know next to nothing about how modern OSes and emulators work. Anyways, here's the idea: If you fitted a virtual machine with rerecording capabilities, should that not result in having rerecording on all emulators available on that platform?

Hello~ I do apologize if I am bumping the topic, but this sorta has something to do with this. I'm currently working on a run of my own, but on Difficult mode(Hard). I've already got to Chapter 4 and it's not as bad as I first pictured it to be.
Sorry for the OT, but in that color your post is just barely readable.

Morimoto's video was the first one I saw for me as well. I think I had the typical "Oh, those japanese rascals!" thoughts. After seeing similar Videos I discovered this site. At first I felt a little stupid for not realizing the video wasn't "real", and after grasping the TAS concept I was all the more impressed with the original and all following videos. Simply great entertainment and a challenging intellectual activity - that was a clear winner for me.

ジョナサン!シャロット! ジョナサン!シャロット! ジョナサン!シャロット! Somehow the the movement in those Castlevania runs get's weirder and weirder... for me it loses a lot of entertainment value, althoug it still remains a good run of course. It's just like in Ocarina of Time where the fast movement also happens to be really annoying.

That 3 star run of 1-1 was really entertaining, a full run could be a lot better than the unfortunately inherently somewhat boring classic Mario runs.

The demo level of Farcry (I think that was the second in retail?). It was just so damn impressive at the time. Similar memories about the first level in Unreal. Strange how easy I'm too impressed by new techs in PC FPSs although I don't really like the gameplay of most ^^

It worked fine with 2.0.2. I would not exactly call it art, but that sure was awesome! I suck at MM3 though, just made it through like 5 bosses. Very nice work that script! I certainly recommend everybody to try that out, and please, make more of the like ^^

I think for encodes this stuff should be properly edited for games where screen usage is not consistent. Say for example with New Super Mario Bros, only show the top screen, and once you enter a pipe that takes you to the bottom screen have both screens scroll up in the video to only use the bottom one, then reverse when Mario goes to the top screen again. For Zelda only show one screen, for boss battle or whenever both screens are in use zoom out to show both. Of course all of this requires some more work for whom is encoding it, but I think it could make for some quite nice results. Whoever wants to see both screens at all times, well there's still the input file.

Could we also add a "drama" vote category, I'd like to give this run an 11. Other than that, it was actually a good run of course.

I for one voted meh. I respect all the work that apparently was put into this movie, but a run where a lot of the time I cannot see where the main character is going is just not entertaining to me. It's just like Mario zipping through the castle, interesting from a technical point of view, but not that entertaining in my opinion. Also, runs in which the protagonist is emitting seriously annoying sounds like all the time, that kind of kills a lot of the entertainment value. Publication worthy? Proably. Did I like watching the movie? Not so much, sorry.

To elaborate on that (sorry, but the first reply does come off a little rude): Frame advance is, although it takes some time to get used to, far superior to any percentage slowdown. You have more control (frame precision) over the action, and because it only advances if you press your frame advance button it also vice versa does not advance if you do not want it to, which is also a great advantage. All in all it is the technique you will want to use in a "serious" TAS, it's worth it. http://tasvideos.org/Glossary.html#FrameAdvance

Great job on finishing this! Turned out just as awesome as we all imagined. Best part: After the Queen, that was just great.

Just a hypothetical question: As the emulators we are using are essentially virtual machines, wouldn't it be relatively easily (not to imply it would be trivial at all) be possible to make them stronger/faster regarding CPU, GPU etc, allowing game hackers to update a game's visuals, soundtracks etc? Imagine a pimped up SNES running a visually upgraded Mario World, stuff like this. Does anybody know if maybe such a project is already in existence somewhere?

Ah, well that makes sense. Anyway, I just heard that in an interview about the game, Dr. Light being evil this time. I'll try finding the video... Found it: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/36512.html

Is that Dr. Light hiding behind what I guess is supposed to be Crash Man? Could it be that he's the true villain? Ah, poor Dr. Wily, so misunderstood.
Dr. Light is actually the villain in Mega Man 9.

I think every pressed frame should count, not only "new" presses.
