No, I think it's an accident of topic splitting and re-merging. The next time someone complains about 99 lives not happening, I'm sure it will be fixable. :)

So redo the entire movie from scratch, Kurabupengin, and save those 27 frames yourself, then submit that as an improvement to this run. Speed/entertainment tradeoffs are part of this whole thing, but it does not justify losing thirty seconds for a tiny cosmetic detail.

Fire power against all of the bosses is clearly the way to go. I really enjoyed 5-1, and all of the phasing through block shenanigans. Incredible job! Voting 'No' because you didn't get 99 lives. Obvious 'Yes' vote because that was entertaining, and the 1-Up noise 90+ times is not as cool as people make it out to be.

A poignant retrospective from this six month old cancelled submission.

It's like Rad Gravity and the character from Umihara Kawase had a child, and that child grew up to be the inspiration for all limb-based movement in Flash videos. As to the actual gameplay and stuff, I have to vote yes here, because of how ridiculous the entire thing is.

I'm not a judge, but there are several cases where a higher difficulty run, even if longer, has obsoleted (or existed beside) a lower difficulty run. It's also possible that the time difference between the current run and your attempt might be very small - after all, your posted segment is already a bit faster than what is published. I would, of course, wait for other responses, but I don't see a reason for you to stop just yet.

I don't get it. I don't get it at all. There are so many things wrong with this submission... First of all, why are you using an alias, Samsara? What even is a 'slamo' anyways? Secondly, why did you get the title of the game wrong? 'Pac-In-Time'? Namco's not that bad at names. This is clearly 'Umihara Kawase GB'. I don't know why you felt the need to disguise that. On a much more serious note, I have to vote yes to this. It's enjoyable to watch, and it makes me wish Pac Man had a grappling hook for his top-down labyrinth game.

That was a really enjoyable fight. I was quite amused by character switching to the music.

Let's stop harping on Warp for a minute to reflect on what moozooh said right there: "It's not the sex we're celebrating; it's the courage." There's still a stigma around gender issues, particularly trans-issues, and it takes a lot of courage to stand up in the face of all of that and say, "No, seriously, the physical of my body and the makeup of my mind disagree, and we can change the body medically now." Remaining silent is nice, it sends the message, "Oh, trans-issues are less of a thing and people are more accepting of one another as humans and less as binary choices that have to be filled out." However, speaking up in support is a much stronger message - it's supportive. It suggests to the people that are too afraid to step forward that they /can/ do so, and will be met favourably. A thread like this is a show of support, and it absolutely belongs on this site, in this forum.

And to think I was stoked about the idea of a 2015-turn run for 2015. Now we have to go back to 2004 to appreciate this work. Sigh, back to work on my time machine.

I have to add my 'no' vote to the pile. I acknowledge that you've called it a playaround, but there doesn't seem to be much 'play'. The first fight has light punches that miss with no other effect (the CPU just stands there), and more light punches when the CPU has been knocked down. The second fight had a nice bit of parrying at the start, but it might be nicer to see parries followed by punishes, to "show the CPU that it can't touch you", and to better entertain me (and possibly the entire audience).

There are two types of movies that I prefer to show people when I am introducing them to TASing: superhuman skill, and completely breaking the game. I think that movies of these two categories have been suggested a lot above, so I won't comment on what I would present to people; suffice it to say several of the movies mentioned are my go tos. I do want to contest the point about shorter movies being better for new viewers. If the viewer is engaged, they will likely sit through something that is a couple of hours long (or come back to it after watching some of it). The viewer is also more likely to watch something they have an interest in (someone who loves SM64 is probably more likely to sit through the 120 stars run than someone who does not care for the game). The question that needs to be asked (and maybe voted on..?) is, for each movie that is presented as newbie-worthy, "Is this something I would want someone with no experience in TAS to see?" Unfortunately, that question trends toward the more popular games and more popular series (Mario, Sonic, Metroid, Gradius, Mega Man, ...) and farther away from niche games, but there are some obvious 'Yes' votes in the list above, some 'Meh', and a couple of 'No's too. I'm sure that, as a community, we could single out a few more games that are newbie-worthy in not too much time at all.

But the reasons you gave against obsoleting the run are that it is starred and newcomer-friendly. Those things aren't in contention with regards to obsoletion.

Nobody is suggesting that Kriole's movie lose its star (at the moment), nor is there anyone saying that it should lose its newcomer mark. The current question is, "should this run obsolete Kriole's run, or should it be its own category?" People are suggesting that this run become starred, but I think that the sheer amount of glitching through the terrain would disqualify (or at least discourage) granting it the newcomer mark. But, again, that isn't the obsolescence discussion.

Three of those examples are credit warp glitches, which don't demonstrate as much of the actual gameplay as the full-length runs. I'm unfamiliar with the other two (four) runs, so I can't comment on the PSX titles, but there's also a significant savings between the longform run and the glitch-enhanced version. I feel that those are different than this run, which still exhibits the gameplay of Kriole's excellent run, while condensing that gameplay to its most critical parts -- collecting each of the souls and defeating the bosses. That is why I am arguing that this should obsolete the other run instead of being another branch. I get that everyone loves that run, but this run does what that run does, only faster, and with the sorts of glitchy walls that we have come to expect from handheld CastleVania games. (I am deliberately not commenting on the SM stuff, because that's a debate that should be taken elsewhere.)

That would require entering the menu and switching to Great Armor every boss fight though, which would likely take more time than what's presented here.

This is the same goal choice and difficulty setting as [1759] GBA Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow "all souls, inbounds" by Kriole in 24:56.10, and as much as I love 1759, this clearly obsoletes it. Heavy glitch abuse is already a tag, we should use it as a tag and not as a separate category or branch.

So much of this run is spent at 1 HP, which was incredible. And, as has also been noted, collecting the Chaos Ring to prove 100% soul collection was a fantastic touch. Very easy 'yes' vote, and something I am going to actively remember to rate (immediately after it's published).

I somehow managed to repeatedly miss the part where you mentioned starting from SRAM. Very very sorry, zvsp. Edit: That does, however, raise the question of why you are starting from SRAM instead of using the starting 'mons throughout the game. 'Mon choice doesn't affect the rest of the game, does it?

Do Togepi and the other three start unlocked in the Japanese version? I am pretty sure they start as eggs in the English version.
