Dream Team Contest: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3171&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 So, I would like to participate in another one of these, is there any interest? I had a lot of fun doing it, despite the trouble we've had (and I've caused, for which I apologize) deriving from a very unfortunate emulator bug. I think the 1 week time limit was good, but the team size could be bigger or smaller, I'm not sure. Bigger because some of the people may not participate as much, or smaller because it's hard to coordinate so many people.

Depends on the game. It should be relatively short and obscure. GB or GBA games would make good choices.

Now that we have greatly expanded the consoles that are TASable, we have a lot of new uncharted water. Perhaps we could explore a completely unTASed, unspeedrun(ran?) game on one of these platforms? I'd love to participate. However, I probably wouldn't be able to find a week that I could devote enough time until December :(

I might be interested in this (last time was pretty fun), but I don't know if I'll have the time to invest into it. I guess it depends on the game, too. In any way, I think this it is a good idea to redo this contest!

I'm not going to participate, but I know a very good GBC game for this kind of a contest. The game is short and easy to play, but has a good amount of strategic possibilities. I'm not sure whether I should reveal the game or not. If somebody wants to participate in arranging the contest, then ask me about the game.

Smaller teams would give us more movies, which could be fun. I guess 2 or 3 would be a good team size.

I know a very obscure GB game that would be ideal for TASing. Though the fact that I've dabbled in it probably gets rid of any proper chance, plus there is probably much better games out there. But yeah, I'd like to be a spectator of one of these contests, my skills just don't quite extend out there.

I'd be very interested in participating in this, as long as it's a NES, SNES or GBx game.

Why can't we do this normally? I almost always prefer a new run than an improvement.

Ack. OK, i think I'm in. I cannot TAS Snes games because of mystical technical difficulties though. NES, GB, Genesis, SMS are fine. The other emulators I don't have much experience with, but I guess i could learn.

I was thinking of taking a free game, is there such thing? This way we could make the download available without running into issues. I wonder if it's a good idea, or if there actually are any worthy free games.

The only one that I know of that isn't a hack/homebrew is Daikatana for GBC.

Yeah, I couldn't find anything either. So, can anyone who's not interested in playing arrange things up?

Does anybody object on Operation C for the GB? It's nice & short with a hideous glitch within. I also got Rocky Rodent up as a candidate. I would like to see this. Note, see not participate. I am back into highschool so I wont have time. Plus, I am very inexperienced. This would be fun to see though.

For the sake of getting this contest started, I am not going to participate in this competition. Here's how it's going to work; In five days time (monday for me) I'm going to give out the game title and checksum. This will give you some breathing room to figure out how you are going to distribute WIPs and effectively TAS with each other during the course of the week. The teams are as follows. They were picked randomly. sign up closes today (friday) Truncated Kyman FODA Cpadolf MUGG TheRandomPieIV dammit Randil moozooh mz Specifics: I will be open for suggestions for games to TAS. However, they must not have a run already on TASvideos, and you must give me the game name by PM. I will decide which game to TAS out of the nominees. You will have exactly one week starting from the time I give out the name of the game to finish your TAS, whatever time that may be in your region. It will be about 5:00 pm GMT +8:00. I will accept late entries on the Tuesday only, but there will be a 10% time penalty if you do. You must PM me a link to the finished TAS, otherwise it will not be counted. I'm not going to place restrictions on outside help. in fact the more external help you get, the better chance you have of winning. The movie file must complete the game that I say. if you get the wrong version of the game, and it does not sync, then you and your team will be disqualified. I think that's it. If anyone has any questions, please ask.

Some general recommendations for game choice.
  • Good genres are platformers, adventures, and bomberman-style action/puzzle games.
  • It must not contain excessive luck manipulation.
  • It must not be "hold right to win" simple.
  • It must not be too complex.
  • It must be relatively short (definitely below 15 minutes for estimated completion time), but not too short.
  • It must not contain emulation errors or require using a feature-incomplete or notoriously problematic emulator (PCSX, Mupen, FBA).

I agree with everything except the "must not be too complex". I'm looking for competition here, and the more complex it is, the more visual the differences are. Sure, it will be harder to get a publishable material in 1 week for a complex game, but I'm looking for a good contest, not a publishable movie. If the game isn't complex enough I'm afraid the movies may seem too similar in the end. I agree that it shouldn't be a long game though. This is of course open to discussion, since it's up to andymac to choose the game.
