We've recently added support for alternate timing methods and other optimization metrics like score, and as such it's time to open another thread for people to request and suggest them for movies currently on the site! Our current optimization metrics are:
  • RTA Timing
  • In-Game Timer
  • Console Timing
  • Maximum Score
  • Minimum Score
If you have a published run that you would prefer an alternate metric for, or if you know of a published run that has requested such in the past, post it here and we'll change it as soon as we're able to.

I'll open with the query of "doesn't this become valid now?" - #9056: Spikestuff & AKheon's GBA Tekken Advance "in-game time" in 18"91 (IGT) Also this is going to expose a lot of encodes that were hiding behind the yt:stretch=4:3 and somehow got an accidental update to lose it lol. Tekken Tag Tag Tournament - 21"06 [5959] Arcade Tekken Tag Tournament by Spikestuff in 21"06 (IGT) Tekken 3 - 8"80 (hrm...) [4164] PSX Tekken 3 by Spikestuff in 02:13.03 [2943] PSX Tekken 3 by Spikestuff in 02:21.17 Tekken 3 - 8"83 (emulation bug moment) [2869] PSX Tekken 3 by Spikestuff in 01:49.73 Tekken 3 - 19"20 (humble beginnings) [2556] PSX Tekken 3 by NhatNM & Spikestuff in 02:15.15 Tekken 3 - 9"61 (Arcade Gaming) [5253] Arcade Tekken 3 by Spikestuff in 9"61 (IGT) Tekken 2 - 9"90 (If I knew 7 years ago I didn't have to do what I did...) [4026] PSX Tekken 2 by Spikestuff in 9"90 (IGT) Tekken 2 - 12"71 (When fighting game TASes changed to Single Round) [2988] PSX Tekken 2 by NhatNM & Spikestuff in 12"71 (IGT) Tekken 2 - 26"50 [2538] PSX Tekken 2 by NhatNM & Spikestuff in 02:11.783 Tekken 2 - 35"98 [2532] PSX Tekken 2 by Spikestuff in 02:20.63 Tekken - 25"76 [3131] PSX Tekken by Spikestuff in 01:44.44 Soul Blade - 23"06 [4005] PSX Soul Blade by Spikestuff in 03:05.17 Soul Blade - 23"29 [3192] PSX Soul Blade by Spikestuff in 03:06.82
The two Tekken TASes that are not being called out for IGT are: [3157] PSX Tekken by Spikestuff in 01:38.92 [5982] GBA Tekken Advance by Spikestuff & AKheon in 01:45.68 Only due to the both of them killing input early. That would extend to in terms of not being called out for IGT: [2706] GBA Tekken Advance by AKheon in 01:40.86 But funnily enough... Tekken Advance - 1'12"40 [2281] GBA Tekken Advance by McBobX in 03:36.35 Bonus: Fighters Destiny and Fighters Destiny 2 would be disqualified from this due to the IGT being inaccurate as shite and is a shitty timer that is practically non functional and was a broken implementation.

Aims for IGT, result screen shows "02:42:63" [3914] Arcade Tetris the Absolute: The Grand Master 2 Plus "T.A. Death" by Masterjun in 02:40:40 (IGT) Note that usually we would write this e.g. 02:40.40 with a dot (.) instead of a colon (:) after the seconds, but maybe it makes sense to use the exact game formatting when possible?
Warning: Might glitch to credits I will finish this ACE soon as possible (or will I?)

This seems clear-cut, so I updated this metric. We should probably standardize whether commas are used as a separator for the numbers, as opposed to thin space, full stop, etc. in some countries our viewers might live in. Is there any one right answer?

I think using the in-game format makes most sense when it exists. For score, I am OK inserting commas or some other separator to improve readability.

Yes. For score, commas are best. It avoids confusion with screen readers. People will likely be more confused with a period when reading the score. For time, the way we've been doing it is best. While it may seem like the best idea to use the format shown in game, screen reading programs only read the time correctly with a decimal point at the end: 2:16.73 is read as "2 16 point 7 3". This avoids confusion because I can tell where the minutes and seconds are separated. My screen reader reads 2'16"73 as "2 16 73", no real separation between the seconds and the decimal value.

This sounds sensible to me, thanks for the feedback! Updated both existing Celeste publications after asking the Celeste TASing community directly.

All Doom publications are aimed for IGT. I wish them all to be updated for IGT, but if I'm restricted to my publications, then I have updated them here.

Done, including the obsoleted ones. To everyone: Note that changing publications forces an update on youtube, and we have a quota (don't remember how big), so it's good to not do it too often. Turns out it's high enough.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Question: does score make sense to display as a metric if there's a clearly defined maximum? To me, those always felt more akin to 100% runs, where you follow a predefined goal but otherwise just aim for speed all the way. If yes, then [3386] PSX TOCA Touring Car Championship "max points" by Noxxa in 10:30:25.84 has a maximum score of 384 (there are 24 races, you get 16 points max per race, 1 for winning qualifying and 15 for winning the race, with no penalty deductions, so max score is 24×16 = 384). And #10615: Noxxa's DOS Aro "100%" in 19:45.038 gets the maximum score total of 4730 points, as that's simply what all the collectable points items in the game add up to.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

Going through most of these but I'm going to have to get back to you on tekken 3 with two runs with the same ingame time but different tas time. Forgot about that scenario.

According to dev chat it's high enough to where we don't need to worry about it too much for manual edits.

IMO no for that exact reason. You're not going to be beating that metric by score so at most it should just be part of the branch label.
