Super Bhop Bros. is a Super Mario Bros. ROM hack by 8BitPlumber that implements a new "Bhop" functionality where horizontal speed is uncapped when jumping backwards. There are six levels designed to test your Bhop skills.
This functionality also allows for new tricks that you won't normally see in the original game as well. My run makes use of these tricks to beat the hack in record time.
  • A left press at 105+ speed redirects Mario back, dropping to -24 speed.
  • A left press at 90+ speed in the air redirects Mario back, dropping to -40 speed. Speed must be decreased on the previous frame.
  • Any speed decrease at 25+ allows for running jumps.
  • Mario ignores walls at -128 speed, which requires a specific subspeed to achieve.
  • On the ground, rightward-moving speed will drop to 0 if speed was increased last frame.
  • (There was also info about parts of the level design not loading at 65+ speed. I'll hopefully look into getting insights on it in the future.)
* In this case, positive speeds are when Mario is moving right. Negative speeds are when Mario is moving left.
Despite ROMHacking.net coming to a close, you can still find the hack here.

U.N. Owen Was Her? (最終鬼畜全部縦) is a Super Mario Bros. ROM hack created by U1, named after the theme song for the Touhou Project's Extra Stage Boss.
This is a single-level hack that significantly amplifies Mario's running jump height, allowing him to jump much higher than normal. There are... policemen-like creatures? that Mario must disarm, bricks to break, and he must make it to Flandre Scarlet for a playdate. Correct me if I'm getting any of this wrong, this is all just an estimated guess (-_- ;)
But anyway, I'm up, up, and away! And I finish the level in record time. This is an approximate 7 to 8-second improvement over a ''very'' old run by HappyLee, which he did on an older emulator.
This is a vertical-scrolling SMB1 hack, contrary to most of the hacks you'd normally see, which unfortunately doesn't work on modern, more accurate emulators like FCEUX and BizHawk; however, this hack was fixed last year to work perfectly for those emulators. Download the working IPS patch here.

Party Bros. is a Super Mario Bros. ROM hack created by StudsX and Morshu in 10 days for the SMB Arena '23 Jam, updated a bit later after the competition to fix a few issues. This hack features three endings: good, bad, and pigeon jumpscare.
...don't ask why.
But anyway, this TAS achieves the good ending in record time. This is played on version 1.1 of the hack. Substantial differences compared to version 1.0 include:
  • No Buzzy Beetle at the start of the game (Outside).
  • Raised Spinies in the middle of Floor 1, requiring a walljump.
  • Steady speed for Bullet Bills in Floor 2.
  • Entirely different "???" room.

Tis the season.

This is a further improved TAS of Summer, a cryptic and difficult Super Mario Bros. 1 ROM hack created by Mana in 2002!
This hack may not be notable for being complex, but it requires a vast amount of skill and will sometimes force players to use glitches against their will.
My newer run beats Zejoant’s run (which also beat my 2021 run by 43 frames) by 84 frames due to, yes, improved optimization still.
Your IPS patch, sir? Better to lay off the heat and enjoy this run while you still can. ;)

Ret's Escape Puzzle World is a Super Mario Bros. 1 ROM Hack created by Excel in 2004. The levels were designed to puzzle and frustrate players, sometimes by gruesome level design, and other times, tricky puzzles.
There is also a secret fourth world after you manage to complete the hack, along with a hidden warp pipe in World 4-4 leading to a mysterious level that tests your Big Mario skills. View them here or here.
This TAS created by me solves the levels quickly and beats Zejoant’s TAS by about 9 seconds due to major optimizations in various levels.

Air is a Super Mario Bros. ROM hack created in 2001 by U1 who, at their time, had firm knowledge of the game's quirks. In it, Mario must navigate through the psychadelic-looking hack with the "infinite jump" cheat, collecting coins and traversing through the airborne obstacles along the way. Emulator tools are encouraged to beat the hack but is not required.
In TASVideos, the first Air hack was succeeded by its sequel, Air 2, due to its sheer complexity and difficulty.
My TAS beats Niftski (legendary SMB1 speedrunner) and Sawyer0622's run by 89 frames, mostly thanks to a timesave in Air 4-2.

Quoting U1
The young man is a traveler.
His two companions are two.
Burning fireball that can be released by placing wishes on plants.
Promises far far apart imposed on those with “power.”
Parallel Air is a Super Mario Bros. 1 ROM hack that differs from the easier Air and the harder Air 2, all hacks of which are created by U1.
Parallel Air is easier than Air 2 because it still retains its midair jump cheat. It also has 3 levels, each with separate rooms, which are remixes of levels from the original Air. Besides the fact that Parallel Air doesn't mark where the hidden blocks are, it is harder than the original Air because some of the rooms have changed their designs to be more difficult.
This is an unexpected improvement of almost three seconds over my original 2018 run, mostly thanks to a new strategy involving avoiding the Super Mushroom in Air 1-1!

HL Coins Land is a Super Mario Bros. ROM hack created by HappyLee somewhere in the mid-2000s where your goal is to collect 100 coins by World X-3 to get extra lives and proceed in the game. Like Air 2 and Hard Relay Mario, savestates and abuse of complex Super Mario Bros. glitches are required to collect every coin and beat every level, making this hack practically impossible to complete in real-time.
My TAS beats HappyLee's 2011 run by 14.19 seconds thanks to better optimization on most stages. Actual rerecord count is 18910.

Super Mario Bros. Plus (SMario+ for short) is an insanely hard hack created by U1 in 2002, taking all levels from the original SMB, and putting huge amounts of difficulty on them. This is said to be COMPLETELY impossible to complete without the usage of save-states, slowdowns, etc.
A secret level is apparently available known as World 52-1 (What I'd call in the hack The Shaded World). My run takes advantage of that, completing the hack completely in just over 1 min. 15 sec.! Astonishing!

Super Hammer Bros. 3 is a Super Mario Bros. 3 ROM hack created by Mitch "mitchflowerpower" Fowler as a joke.
The first "level" is merely just an unskippable Spade Panel. The player must go through that "level" to continue.
Following after is a group of Hammer Bro battles. Seven, to be exact. All consist of a battlefield made exactly like in World 1's only Hammer Bro battle in the original game and are shuffled up thanks to the first "level" of the game.
Six of their chests contain Jugem's Clouds, while only one of them contains a hammer, required to enter the final "battle" with Bowser and win the game.
My run breaks the system of luck and brainwashes the Hammer Bros to make the least amounts of movement possible for me to pass through. And in under a minute!
Now, behold... the IPS patch I provide to you is yours to keep if you choose to take a gander at the hack yourself.

In case you don't know yet, I'm not too bright with luck manipulation. I'm sure it can be optimized a bit further for a faster time.

Super Frig Bros. 3: Revenge of the Frigs, or simply Super Frig Bros. 3, is a Super Mario Bros. 3 ROM hack created by Mitch "mitchflowerpower" Fowler, built for his second ROM hack competition. It features 12 levels, along with a special mechanism that allows for Mario's hat and overalls to change colors between appearances (such as entering from a warp, growing/shrinking, etc.).
My TAS, made in May 2018, speeds through the hack in record time, beating Extronic's existing run by 4.6 seconds.

This is one of those rare SMB hacks out there that have a lot of replay value. The object is to find stars in order to reach Bowser’s castle, this is a fun hack that will most definitely keep you busy. And the music in this hack is really good too. The spikes can kill you in an instant, so be careful. If you like SMB hacks then this game is right up your alley…
My TAS understands the ins and outs of the rooms that the player will end up in and manipulates luck to get the best rooms wherever possible. It also achieves the good ending with Princess Peach being spawned after the end of this movie.
I may not have the address for what room the player will be able to enter next, but you can download the IPS patch here.

Sonic ERaZor is a hack of Sonic the Hedgehog (16-bit) created by Selbi. This hack is unlike many other hacks, featuring a heavy in-game story line, unique challenges, and never seen before gameplay mechanics. These elements are often somehow related to explosions, which is why this hack is sometimes called, "What if Michael Bay directed Sonic 1?"
A notable aspect about this hack is that it contains many cutscenes, chapter screens and story screens.
This is a work-in-progress TAS for a Sonic the Hedgehog 1 ROM Hack known as Sonic Erazor.

Game Objectives

  • Aims for the fastest game completion
  • Kinda uses glitches
  • Uses death? to save time
  • Does not rage, that would be silly
I am planning on obsoleting this tool-assisted playthrough created by Shiro Paradox made months ago, but I have currently stopped before Special Place, Act 3 of 9.
As I said, feel free to collaborate TAS for me; I would appreciate it if you do. Please be aware that I didn't touch this project since July 2018.

AEPLLG allows for Mario to infinitely jump in mid-air. This is sometimes known as:
  1. Moon Jump
  2. Jump in Midair
  3. Infinite Jump
GIIIVY allows for Mario to walk through walls (but only from the left side of it).

TEYIUT allows for Mario to execute the downwards pipe warp. This is only useful for when Mario is in specific rooms.

Currently obsoleted (technically) by DaSmileKat's run. I feared for a while that it wouldn't exactly count because Mario is in the wall for two frames (for the first walljump), but I believe I should give it some saving grace here.

Quoting speedrun.com rules
Must be actual walljumps. Jumping inside a wall and hitting the block directly above you does not count as a walljump. Cramming yourself between a wall and the edge of the screen and jumping from there also does not count as a walljump.
Here is an improved TAS of Super Mario Bros. that doesn’t actually complete the game, but instead performs 10 walljumps as quickly as possible.
In this category, players must catch the wall and jump off of it 10 times in total. Most of the time, players would be able to perform those walljumps in World 1-1’s underground bonus room. They would also perform one of the easiest walljumps first at the first pipe.
I perform those walljumps in World 1-1’s first pipe rather than the first pit, and oddly enough, it seems to be a more suitable place to perform as many walljumps as a TASer would like in record time instead of the latter. The reason why is that even though I can perform a walljump by pressing A and holding it for five frames, the pipe is actually closer to the start position than the pit, meaning the walljumps are executed faster than usual.
Because of that, this run is 3.88 seconds faster than my other TAS submitted in the userfiles.
