After months of development, the emulator JPC-RR (binaries available in the TASTools repository) is now considered acceptable for submissions, allowing TASes of DOS games to commence again. For further discussion, see here and here.

Some work has been done for expanding the role of the Game Resources section of the site. I hope to expand this into a large library of information for many games. In an effort to do so, I've allowed it so that any published author can automatically edit any page in the game resources section. I hope this inspires authors to help document the knowledge they possess. More details can be found in this post

Wiki pages can now contain embedded DailyMotion video. This means you can now display DailyMotion videos in your movie submissions. Documentation here. This is in addition to the existing YouTube, Viddler, and Flowplayer (archive.org) support. Some bugs in the aforementioned modules have also been fixed, and more goodies yet to come.

Our forum had a significant overhaul over the past few days. For the most part, it still looks the same, although the staff now has access to improved tools for managing the forum, and everyone now has access to a lot more BBCode than ever before. The new BBCode allows for anyone to display videos from YouTube, Google Video, DailyMotion, Viddler, or Archive.org in posts or private messages. The code tag now also offers the option to syntax highlight the code within. Useful if you want to share Lua scripts with other player, or AVISynth scripts with encoders. There's a frame tag now in the forum to match the new frames module the wiki has. With it, you can specify a number of frames and have it appear in a human readable timestamp of hours, minutes, and seconds. The original amount of frames still appears on hover. Use it in your submissions or discussions to signify how many frames you saved in your latest run. You can read about all these changes, and others in appropriate thread.

The site is now able to integrate with the Subversion Version Control System. This allows our wiki pages to have up to date information on active TASing. Documentation here. A couple of users use Subversion over at Google Code in order to coordinate the creation of TASs between multiple users, and in general for backup and sharing of TASs being worked on. Here's an example of the new Subversion integration in action. Currently more than a dozen TASers use Subversion to manage their TASs. It is recommended that more of you do so. If you'd like to use the Subversion integration, you can already begin to do so, however contact adelikat or myself to add your SVN username to our database in order to facilitate your TASVideos username appearing in logs. Other enhancements to almost live TASing coming soon.

I added 3 new RSS feeds for News, Publications, and Submissions. These new feeds should make it easier to subscribe to the information you want. The new feeds update once an hour. The publication feed is immune to issues of movie maintenance updates, causing havoc, and always has proper enclosures for BitTorrent broadcatching for each torrent file present for the publication. The combined RSS feed is still available, and will be updated in the near future to combine the newer feeds. If there's any other kinds of feeds you'd like to see available, please discuss it in the forum.

I rewrote the combined RSS feed, and moved it to a new location. The old one has been removed, and forwards to the new one. This new one merges in news updates, and no longer shows updated movies as being new. Broadcatching has also been fixed. Basically, it combines the three new feeds I made earlier. Enjoy!

I added tons of information to the various RSS feeds the site provides. Submission items now contain a link to the movie file. Publications now contains full info for each movie, including watching online links, mirror URLs, all torrents, categories, and rating. All RSS items now also link to the appropriate place to comment on an item, and the cutoff length of each item has been expanded so you can see more about each one. You can now use our RSS feeds in your applications to display info however you desire, and provide easy access to our content. In order to assist with this, there is now a Systems Feed Which contains links to a feed for each system listing all non obsoleted movies. These feeds conform to RSS 2, Atom, and Media RSS 1.5 specifications. They've been tested and work nicely in Firefox, Opera, Safari, Chrome (with RSS addon), Internet Explorer 8, Google Reader, Akregator, Miro, qBittorrent, uTorrent, Deluge, and an XBox Media Center plugin one of our members is working on. Support in other clients although not tested should be fine. If you create any applications that make use of these feeds and could be of interest to our users, please start a topic about it in our forums. All these feeds are generated hourly. In your applications, please cache the pages you download, and don't bother re-downloading a feed if an hour hasn't elapsed, so as not to tax our server unnecessarily. Enjoy!

I just added another RSS feed to use as an API. This feed groups other feeds which list movies which are notable in some way. Being recommended (special stars), top rated, or award winning. All RSS feeds now also contain categories for each award a movie won. In addition to easy access to award winning movies in RSS feeds, the awards page now automatically displays all award winning players and their movies. Trophy icons users possess now also link to the particular entry in the award page for that award. More award goodies coming soon.

It has come to my attention by a frustrated user trying to register that our registration form was broken. I'm not sure for how long this has been the case, it might have even been slightly random. The issue has been fixed. If you had trouble registering before, try again now. In the process of fixing this, I also noticed we had a few other issues, which were fixed too. If you run into any problems, and are unable to register or post in the forum about it, please report it in our IRC channel.

Another problem was reported today that the capcha in the registration forum was sometimes unsolvable. This was introduced due to some software upgrades performed on the server. Our code has been modified to work with the new software present, sorry for the inconvenience, you should have no issues registering now.

TASVideos now has a completely rewritten guide for creating our high quality multimedia files for our movies. It has been three months in the making and contains contributions from many of our current publishers. We are always on the lookout for new encoders! If you are interested in helping out, drop by the Encoders' Corner or ask around in our IRC channel.

For those of you enjoying our direct streaming buttons to stream movies from archive.org, we have good news - streaming from there now makes use of JWPlayer, which should load and play movies faster than the previous use of Flowplayer. Embedding movies on the forum using the video tag now also employs JWPlayer.
