Japanese versional Contra called "魂斗羅", I use this version and this version can save time in cut scenes. Use two players to finish this game as soon as possible.
Emulator used: FCE Ultra 0.98.15
Uses two players
Aims for fastest real time
Allows death
Uses programming errors
At level 2, making super fire is very important, control every frame and control S-gun bullets can make bullets in a line.
At level 3, making full use of double-floor jump. Three special double-floor jump point in it.
At level 4, in third stage, re-fire can be more faster. At boss stage, 1P helps 2P to destroy the boss.
At level 6, 1P is a leader in front of 2P, making full use of S gun and let boss to eat every bullets.
At level 8, mini boss and final boss are recording in single-frame.
I didn't use double S gun in level 4, it makes lags and waste lots of time, so just 1P use upgraded S gun.
Special thanks to: Xipo韩晖 helps me to research this TAS.
klmz: Claimed and replaced the submission file with one starting from power-on without an embedded savestate.
This run is somewhat underappreciated (for one, I've yet to see a comment from adelikat), but it does raise some doubts whether it can't be pushed further.
If stage 6 is indeed slower it may be because player 2 lagged behind too much, making the screen scroll longer (in which case it would probably make sense to suicide p2 at some of the vertical jumping sections). Then again, there might have been another reason.
Can the jumping height glitch normally used in stage 2 be used elsewhere?
Also, player 2 needs more attention. This run perfectly encapsulates stylish and entertaining interaction between two players. There might be less opportunities for that in Contra, but I think more good things could be done.
That being said, I vote yes. Improving upon one of the better and more researched runs by adelikat is no easy feat, especially for the first submission.

I'm a big fan of seeing boss improvements, especially in the base levels. Nice job! I hope we'll see more movies from you :-)
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically.
Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.)
Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html)
Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature!
Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
Do you mean that this is the SD you want to use? Did you derive a 512kb for it? If not, could you let NitroGenesis claim this like he wanted to? Also, any suggested screenshots?
IDK if a comparision is the real SD we want to use. I just wasn't sure if feos was making a real SD or whatever.
I have dumped this and started encoding it, they should be up by tomorrow night at the latest.

Sorry, very busy few weeks for me and I only just now have a stable internet connection.
It is probably slower because the flames on that level are on a global timer that starts on power-on, so he has no way to manipulate their behavior, thus some of his improvements got nullified
The jump glitch is in stage 3 not 2, and it is a peculiarity of the vertical scrolling that is unique to that level
Every jump costs one frame in this game (as opposed to Super C), and there is not much wait time either, so this game doesn't lend itself as well to 2 player interaction. That being said, I do feel it could be done better than this movie (as well as my movie).
Indeed, this is one of the more challenging games I've TASed, and one of my top 5 proudest TASes. Good job on an unexpected improvement. I thoroughly enjoyed watching, thank you!
It was fast... but it looked... meh. My reasoning of that is due to the fact that there's tons of wasted shots. The Bases being the main offender of it. I mean it was phenomenal except fpr that as it looked.. sloppy.. amateurish.. like a normal player playing an otherwise brilliant looking game.
So voted high meh.. because if it was well done technically.. but crap on the entertainment in those 2 core areas. :(

I wasn't going to produce the publishable SD (I never do), I've only made the same thing as for HappyLee's 1-frame improvement.
But this my video has a wrong Logo. Also, there can't be a DeDuped analog of it because it was made for watching in VirtuakDub & has framecounter.
Also, I don't feel to reencode it, only if someone tells me exactly how to resplice the ready vid with new Logo (for mp4).

The "missed shots" are absolutely necessary to construct the spread gun into a beam to defeat things optimally. I only saw one or two stray shots being made that were not necessary to construct the beam, and they seemed like okay choices to me.
After watching this run, I then rewatched adelikat's run mostly to compare entertainment choices.
I tend to agree with adelikat's assessment of the entertainment value. This run is very easily of the same quality of entertainment as the previous run. I was actually having trouble visually discerning differences between them to be honest. It's definitely solid on the entertainment portion, though probably with a bit of room for improvement.
The technical quality is probably very good, being that it beats the previous submission. I'd speculate that it is probably faster in all comparable portions, and that any time lost is due to universal timers and limiting game mechanics. It would take someone very knowledgeable on the game mechanics to confirm that, though.
Definite yes vote.
Unfortunately those wasted shots are unavoidable as explained earlier on this page. It's done so that the Spreader shoots a constant stream of bullets as opposed do dispersed bursts, and is actually very hard to achieve. Edit: Gah, beat by Kirkq.
Oh right, stage 3... I always forget about the Bases. :D
I'll take an SD / 512kb from anyone who uploads it. Someone just has to do it. If no one wants to, I will. Just let me know of your intentions, NitroGenesis and feos.

Brandon, I NEVER make publishable SDs or 512s.
